Arianna Huffington Voted Media Person Of The Year

Arianna Huffington beat out contenders like Tina Fey, Rupert Murdoch and the Laid-Off Journalist to win I Want Media's Person of the Year 2008.

The readers of I Want Media nominated 10 candidates and cast thousands of votes in the week-long Internet-based contest. The winner last year was "Hollywood's striking writers," who followed Comedy Central satirical newsman Stephen Colbert in 2006.

Huffington had a big year in 2008, guiding her liberal-leaning news and blog site to record traffic during the U.S. election season.

I joined Huffington Post this year so maybe I am one of many many people who helped the popularity of this site but I think that "left -leaning' is a gross understatement and I have really objected to many things that have been said and exaggerated and over stated at this site

.I thought I was a liberal when I joined this site but the headlines distorting the truth here have really taken all of the fun out of being a liberal for me.1000 stories about Sarah Palin helping to make her famous when she never should have gotten the time of day and all of the hype about the word 'qualified' contrary to the U.S constitution and real issue was the word was capable.
I do not find HP to be concerned with journalism or accuracy .I always feel like the powers that be at this site are trying to fight fire with fire as regards the political right and especially Fox who are deserving of the Hamurabi code but I would hope that we were better than that. Being better than the alternatives is not tantamount to doing your best or being as good as you can be.

I think you are entering the world of hyperbola when you compare the post to Fox. I don't think they are fighting fire with fire. However, I too feel that the headlines have been a bit over the top. But this is not the NYT. It's a blog and we are not children. She has many bloggers on the site and headlines which mislead do get our attention to stories that lead, continue to mislead or accurately inform. It's a great source for news and for us to share our opinions and sources of other information. I think the award is well deserved.

Arianna, Congratulations!!! I believe this website helped PE Obama supporters during the election. If we had to rely on CNN, MSNBC (except for Keith), ABC, NBC, CBS, etc, I believe the rethugs would be tenants of the the White House in January. But this site, DailyKos and others were so supportive when all the lies were being aired by the MSM. It as great that we could come to this site to find the truth. I would like to read your book on how you did it? When did the vision to create the website come to you? What did people tell you, etc.? Congratulations to your wonderful staff as well since I know they contributed to your success and helped immensely in making HuppPost so wonderful!!! Keep up the good stories and please stick to the truth!!!

Arianna is the best. Her books have been fantastic, HuffPo is great, and she's an awesome talking head, pointing out the hypocrisy and pointing to the sane and pragmatic.
