Fran Drescher: Senate Seat Should Be Mine

According to New York magazine, "The Nanny" star Fran Drescher wants Hillary Clinton's Senate seat:

Fran Drescher wants to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate. She says she's qualified. "I've just been given the appointment of U.S. diplomat," she said at a party for Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven at that restaurant on December 3. "My title is public diplomacy envoy for women's health issues, and I just got back from a four-country European tour of duty. I believe next I'll be sent to the Middle East." ... What else makes her a good candidate? "I'm an authentic and honest person," she said. "And I think Capitol Hill needs more of that."

Mediabistro adds that "Drescher has considered her run before but has never quite made the leap." In fact, US News & World Report quotes her voicing her interest way back in 2007:

Her activism began grimly, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. ... Along the way, she says she won first lady Laura Bush's help and was rewarded with a nomination to be a special U.S. envoy on women's health issues. Her appointment is stuck in the usual bureaucracy, but she swears there are no skeletons in her closet. "I'm a good girl, I am," she says. Her further political goal: being a New York senator. "If Hillary wins," she tells us of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, "I want that seat!"

Sanator Nanny, oh please; who could stand that voice and accent for more than 1 second before gagging. Sending her to other countries to represent us? What an embarrassment

Go for it Fran --hiring people out of the box is a good idea . Politicians have to much baggage and dirt their always trying to hire from the public

I think Fran could really have a future in politics.

But think about it... what a brilliant tactic to use against those in the senate who are being stubborn about voting to pass various bills. They can just send her in, and she can chat on and on about the subject at hand, ultimately forcing these folks to succumb if only she will just... stop. :-)

But her being in the senate could truly be quite interesting. I wish her the best! :-D

The voice she used on "The Nanny" was a nod to the typical New York City/Brooklyn Jewish accent/style of speaking. If you have ever seen her to an interview her voice is actually lower than her character on TV.

Yes -- if I remember correctly, wasn't there an episode where "The Nanny" character of Fran Fine meets Fran Drescher?
So you could actually hear the difference between the character's voice and her real one.

Grief -- that's like saying David Ogden Stiers talks with a heavy Boston accent normally. (I've met him and he doesn't. He's a very pleasant man, btw. WICKED sense of humor.)

Politics has become a joke anymore. Between CM, Thompson, Franken, and now this? Schwartzenegger, is a joke, I heard rumors of Tim Robbins looking for some political angle too.

Politics is not the place for out of work actors.

Politics is for people who've chosen acting as their everyday life. I think she'd fit right in.

Yeah - Bush did a good job of injecting seriousness back into the system.

And what are your views on Reagan?

I've learned to judge people for their actions, not their professions (or race, or sexual orientation, etc).

You should try it - it's illuminating!!

So what has Fran Drescher ever done that makes her a worthy or qualified person for the senate? Besides acting and b-reast c-ancer? And please don't say BC is good enough to get her the job. That's what EE thought too.

Why does everyone revere Reagan as though he was the greatest president? I remember living through "reaganomics."

Thompson was in politics long before he was known for acting, so was Chris Mathews.

Matthews is a clown. But I would rather see him off to the senate and off of the media.

She is well informed of the issues, I think that this could be a good choice. She is smart, articulate, and she does not back down from anyone.
