Freedom's Watch Shutting Down At Month's End

The Washington Times reports that Freedom's Watch, which positioned itself as a right-wing MoveOn.org, hasn't lasted nearly as long:

The conservative political advocacy group, Freedom's Watch, is shutting down at the end of the month, after a year in which its main benefactor was financially battered by the current recession.

The group had always planned a reduction after the election and up until the Thanksgiving holiday it was considering downsizing from its peak size of about 50 staff during the campaign to a few key positions.

But the board of directors, which includes former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer and former Ambassador to Italy Mel Sembler, has decided to shut it down completely, multiple sources said.

"There are no ifs or buts," said a Republican operative close to the situation. "The board has made the decision to shut the doors."

The group's dependence on Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, one of the GOP's biggest donors, was in the end its undoing.
