The Guardian:

Support for renewable energy technology to fight global warming is weakening in the face of worldwide economic problems and the true scale of the carbon reductions required, a survey published today has suggested.

Figures presented at the UN climate talks in Poznan, Poland, show that climate experts have less faith in alternative energy than they did 12 months ago.

A rather irrelevant survey because oil ain't going to last forever and coal will never be clean.

Because they know that fossil fuels and Nukes are not causing climate change

I don't think it is either.

Not surprising - no technology can support an economic system based in an addiction to ever-increasing consumption. And as the rest of the world joins in the frenzy, the environmental and social degradation will just accelerate. Human society needs to be radically transformed...and it will be, either by choice and design or by catastrophe.

There are some hard facts that have to be faced when it comes to renewable energy. What happens when the wind doesn't blow, it gets cloudy, and it's winter? You can't interrupt power, so there has to be some kind of back up.

Not to mention the environmental impact. To be successful, there would have to be solar panels and wind turbines over billions of acres, at a cost of trillions. Also, think of all the birds that would slashed to bits. Species extinct. Tragic.

Reality sets in.

naw, plenty of energy from sun. geothermal. all it takes is a will to do it. we must build a grid around earth where lots of solar energy can be had. earth is a dangerous place as we know from drilling core samples and infared space photos. stop weapons and war, our real danger is from nature, not other people. live in space, build space resorts. remmember the past, it will be our future, its written in the rocks.

The greater the number of wind power sites, the more predictable overall output will be. (The law of large numbers.)

The "all or nothing" argument is misleading at best. If it's cloudy, there's probably wind to go with it.
And why does winter preclude alternative energy sources? Sun doesn't shine for as many hours and is lower in the sky, but that can be adjusted for.

As for the birds, large turbines spin slowly enough for them to get out of the way.

Yes, there will have to be backup sources available. The point is to reduce the overall reliance on them to begin with.

Green energy was never the solution in the first place. 80% of global warming is due to raising billions of livestocks every year, worldwide. You guys need to wake up and let everyone know.

The SELF-SERVICE of this citation is EASILY grounds for SUSPICION; moreover, its delusory destraction makes DEFINITION and subsequent SOLUTION of the problem even more difficult. If there is any SPECIES whose egregious, surfeit billions are responsible for "global warming," then it is certainly HOMO SAPIENS........and most of that species GROWTH is occurring--as Al Gore clearly mentions in his film--in the THIRD WORLD which can't EVEN cope with PRESENT population levels.

Get every African, S. American, and South Asian country's birth rate below 15 per thousand, and a corner MIGHT be turned!!!
