I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Obama Birth Cert Is Real My God

Mike Madden chronicles in Salon a day spent watching the people who believe President-Elect Barack Obama isn't a natural born citizen because of gamma rays emanating from internet porn. It's a story to be delighted in and savored. It's the incredibly true tale of "dentist-slash-lawyers" and manic-depression and multiple violations of Godwin's Law and the "press conference" they held at the National Press Club.

I mean, this is straight bonkers, y'all:

Throughout the press conference, the conspiracy theorists had trouble keeping things focused. Harlem minister James David Manning wandered off on a tangent about how Obama's election still means "there's never been a black womb" that produced a president. Manning might have seemed like he was making a case against Obama based on some theory of black nationalism, except that he admitted he had endorsed John McCain in the campaign. That was after he had called Obama "this usurper, this long-legged mack daddy."

Taitz -- the lead attorney in the case the Supreme Court declined to hear Monday morning -- kept making stranger and stranger assertions. At one point, she asked why the government had fined broadcasters for Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction," but didn't intervene to force the media to report on Obama's allegedly phony birth certificate. She claimed Obama holds passports from at least four countries, compared him to Black Panther leader Eldridge Cleaver, equated the "controversy" about Obama to Watergate, and finished her tour-de-force presentation by saying that if Obama can claim he's a U.S. citizen and win an election, then so could just about anyone. "If a person can become a presidential candidate only based on his own statement," she said, "then somebody like Osama bin Laden, theoretically, can come and write a statement, 'I'm eligible,' and we should put him on the ballot, too?"

I also appreciate that Madden is kind enough to throw in a little News You Can Use about how the mentally ill are always using the National Press Club as a venue to validate their lunatic night terrors:

It was clear from the occasional applause that most of the people in the room agreed with Schultz, anyway. Although the event was at the National Press Club, that's no guarantee of mainstream media interest. Groups may appear legitimate because they hold a news conference at the club, but the dirty little secret is the club rents out its rooms to anybody who shows up with the money. Most of the people apparently came from the weirder corners of the media. One friendly questioner, Shelli Baker of Morning Song Radio, wound up taking the mike for about 10 minutes to tell a complicated story involving Saudi oil barons, John Ashcroft, sharia law, the World Bank and Mitt Romney, which left even Schultz confused.

If you recall, the National Press Club is where the unbalanced Larry Sinclair held his own "stupefying press conference." Anyway, Madden says the conspiracy twits have "another lawsuit up [their] sleeve," so, there's no reason that any of this ever has to end.

George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson also weren't born in the United States. They were British citizens at birth. Hence Jefferson is disqualified from being President. Thus his Louisiana Purchase was illegal. Which means Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri are not part of the United States. Therefore neither Harry Truman nor Bill Clinton were US-born. Truman signed the treaties ending World War 2, which means that is invalid and the USA is officially still at war with Germany and Japan.

Thomas Jefferson's mother was born in England. She died in 1776, before independence from England was recognized. That means she died a British subject. By Donofrio's legal theory, Jefferson therefore had dual citizenship and should never have served as president.

GreatBear: Your logic only holds up if you are a rightwinged dolt wearing aluminum hats ....

The rightwing are the only folks I know of who claim that a child born ON THIS SOIL - to a US Citizen & a non-US Citizen - then that child has dual citizenship. HOG WASH!

The Supreme Court refused to hear the case because Obama already proved he is a natural born US Citizen.

Duh.....while I think these folks are off the reservation, you are wrong about the birthplaces of those presidents you mentioned. They were all born on this soil, but were subjects of the british crown. Washington and Jefferson were both Virginians and Adams was born in MA. And, of course they were not US citizens at birth because the United States didn't exist at the time.

George Washington wasn't born in the USA because there was no such thing when he was born. He wasn't born in England, either. He was born in the Virginia colony and was a British subject.

There is a second clause for the eligibility for President that says anyone who was a citizen of the United States at the time of its founding is eligible. But I'm sure you knew that...

As a travel agent--I have to counsel travelers on acceptable proof of citizenship when going abroad.

Prior to the US requiring a passport for everyone, one could use a birth certificate and state issued photo ID. This is still OK for cruising in the Caribbean.

However, the hospital birth cert with footprints and doc's signature is not acceptable. You would be denied boarding. It had to be the version from your state's Dept of Vital Statistics that looks JUST LIKE OBAMA'S!

It's real--get over it.

You miss the point.

The "footprint" cert is not acceptable proof for obtaining a passport--and is not accepted by airlines, etc according to the rules set up by the US gov't.

Part II

If you ask them about to produce any documentation to support their claims, they'll start talking about the hundreds of thousands (I think it's now millions) of dollars that Obama has spent to keep his records "sealed". Apparently, Obama has godlike powers to get every government agency in the world to prevent anyone from acessing any records about his powers. Ask them again, they'll start talking about why haven't they seen his medical records or his college transcripts, as knowing what grade he got in Comparative Literature 101 at Columbia holds the key to where he was born.

These people are not to be taken seriously. It's sad, but amusing at the same time, that the courts have to waste their time and our money patting these loons on the head and telling them that they have to present things like "evidence" before they can prevent a president from sworn in. But conspiracy nuts know that the complete absence of evidence is itself proof that the conspiracy is real.

The most amazing thing about these nutbars is that they expect Obama to meet a burden of proof that nobody could ever possibly meet, yet expect everyone else to swallow their assertions as fact without a shred of evidence. Where are the four passports from four different countries that Obama supposedly had? Where's the Kenyan birth certificate? Where are the travel records that show his mother traveled outside the US around the time of his birth? Where are the Indonesian adoption papers? Where is the evidence he ever applied for Indonesian citizenship?

What I've found when you try to engage these residents of crazy town is that their "proof" consists largely of links to blogs which reference other blogs which reference still other blogs which usually end up referring back to the first blog. They live in an incestuous world where they constantly reinforce each other's delusions as "fact". While they're quick to tell you about every microscopic detail that some anonymous yahoo named "techdude" has found in the scanned copy of Obama's birth certificate, they can't tell you how his mother got to Kenya without a visa.

Democrats aren't as tacky?
Democrats aren't as insane?
Democrats aren't such poor sports?

GWB being president was seriously depressing, especially when he got reelected in 2004. It made me feel that the US is predominantly willfully ignorant, bellicose, and will follow a leader who seems confident sooner than one who seems competent.
But I still would not have supported this sort of activity by Democrats after GWB was elected.

The soul of the GOP is getting more and more corrupt and disingenuous. Maybe if they stop watching those televangelists they'll get their heads on straight.

Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) are natural born citizens. They have no representation. Gov. Blagojevich should appoint one to fill the vacant senate seat as his final act before resigning.

But no matter what spin they take he is a natural born US citizen.
1. If he were born in Kenya - his mother is a US citizen and he would still be a natural born citizen. Although his mother was 18 when he was born (the law regarding the time the US parent had to live in the US changed from 5 years after age 14 years to 2 years after age14 years and this law was reoctractive to the 1930's). So he would still be a natural born citizen.
2. If he was adopted in Indonesia - he was a minor and cannot give up his citizenship and his parents cannot give up his citizenship - so he is still a natural born citizen.
3. Because his father was a British Citizen at the time - he would have dual citizenship. But having dual citizenship does not mean that he surrendered his US citizenship. A court case regarding dual citizenship resulting in the precedence that a dual citizenship would still be a US citizen.
So whatever nonsense they come up with, Obama would still be a natural born US citizen. But the facts are that he was born in Hawaii of a US citizen. He was not born in Kenya not adopted in Indonesia but if he were he would still be a natural born citizen and eligible to be president of the USA.

There are a large portion of GOP supporters or members with serious mental problems and you don't have to look any farther than the Evangelicals. These morons and some of their warped beliefs along with their desire to force societies to accept their tenets is proof enough.

If the rightwingers want to continue their death-by-a-thousand cuts, who are we to stop them?

The election is over but they will only keep reliving it over and over again with these conspiracy shenanigans.

And Obama has nothing to fear from them. They don't have the kind of organization inside or outside of Washington anymore to threaten Obama's presidency.

And that's the whole point, isn't it? Their day is done. What little currency they had was spent during the last years of the Clinton administrations/the beginning of Bush's first term. They no longer have the numbers, the organization, or the clout. Just the histrionics.

I am regretting not giving the practice of law more thought as a career path when I was younger. I assumed that you had to be really smart and know the law to be a lawyer. Apparently that is not the case.

The thing that sticks with me about this article, is the black nationalist guy who called Barack a long-legged mack daddy. Nothing irritates me more than fellow black people who are just as racist and silly as Palin rally people.

I stopped talking to a childhood friend of mine recently because I'm sick of her and her half-educated mother trying to slam black nationalism down my throat. Out of all the black people I know, those two are the only ones who talk crazy like that. Always trying to give me books about mysterious alien Egyptians and talking about magical powers that special black people have. Apparently, I'm not special enough to believe that ridiculousness.
