Inventor Le Trung and his fem-bot Aiko are profiled in the The Sun. Scroll down and watch video reacting like a "real female" to Trung's touch:

Inventor Le Trung, 33, created Aiko, said to be "in her 20s" with a stunning 32, 23, 33 figure, shiny hair and delicate features.

She even remembers his favourite drink and does simple cleaning and household tasks...

...The fem-bot has a touch-sensitive face and body so she reacts if shown affection or hurt.

"Like a real female she will react to being touched in certain ways. If you grab or squeeze too hard she will try to slap you. She has all senses except for smell," he said.

Check out video of Trung and Aiko. One minute and six seconds into the video, Trung touches Aiko's chest and she says, "I do not like it when you touch my breasts!"

It's a pelvic stimulation sensor. They were made in China. Most are defective. In the end, just like RL, these digital women will experience a "virtual" type of frustration like their biological sisters. But like in the 50's they just won't complain about it.

With all his tech ability, why did he create a robot to specifically feel pain and to say specifically that you should not touch its breasts? That indicates something very creepy in this guy's psyche. But a brilliant achievement in animatronics.

"She has all senses except for smell" - that would be a good thing considering the type of guy who would buy this thing.

Although his invention is quite remarkable and can perhaps have some valuable impact to certain groups of people; elderly, disabled, etc., I find the examples provided in the video to be disturbing. Why not examples of it doing something constructive for the person, and perhaps showing it can express joy, or laughter?

Slow down... those upgrades I am sure are coming in future models. We are only a mere few years away from true artificial sentience.

What's strange is what he thinks of to teach it.

It does not occur to _me_ that among the first things you teach a robot is to have personal-space issues!

Why not? Have you read Asiamov? I would imagine this is one of many variations in design this fellow is working out and it all begins with "personal space" and judgement as the android will be acting as an individual within a specific culture.

Yeah, I've read Isac - nearly all he published. But that's not really the point. I was trying to be somewhat discrete and not blatantly say he's teaching it about sexism! Thinkaboutit...

Aiko is NOT creepy. You want creepy? Take a look at this: www.genpets.com/meet.php.

I warn my sister-in-law that I'll send her one whenever she starts giving my brother a hard time.

Wow. I dunno what is wrong with the other posters but I am seriously impressed. The bit where he asks her to tell him when she feels pain and then she A) understands vocal commands, B) analyses sensory perception to make a judgement, C) capable of quite precise movement to ward "pain" away

It does sadden me how little vision or imagination the general populace has, we should be incredibly supportive of this man not cracking stupid jokes about what we perceive to be his social skills or sexuality.

Come on. The guy builds "her" to look like a China doll dream, and gives her sexual responses to say? Think Pygmalion from Greek myth, honey. Note he did not build the robot to look like a valet, butler, or housekeeper. Great technology or not, you have to admit it's a little creepy. One step up from a blow up doll.

Exactly. He's on the path towards self-awareness, which is a keystone of sentience. The Turing Test, long held to be a benchmark in this regard, is that a human can hold a conversation with a machine in a blind environment (i.e. text on a screen) and not tell the difference between the machine-generated and live human responses.

Self-awareness would also be necessary if an android were to assist an elderly client with standing up/mobility. If grandma says, "Aiko, you're hurting me," we don't want Aiko to drop grandma on the floor; we want the robot to be able to judge pressure and interact, perhaps by loosening its grip and asking, "Is that better?"

Some of Aiko's movements are still fairly 'robotic,' so there's room to improve the articulation of her limbs.

Plus, his invention will probably get health care before we do.
