The Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports that a probe has been launched into Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman's ties to businessman Nasser Kazeminy:

Federal investigators are looking into allegations that a longtime friend and benefactor tried to steer money to U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, the Pioneer Press has learned.

Agents with the FBI have talked to or made efforts to talk to people in Texas familiar with the allegations, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Houston is where the first of two lawsuits was filed alleging Nasser Kazeminy, a Bloomington financier, tried to steer $100,000 to Coleman via his wife's Minneapolis employer. The second suit, filed in Delaware, alleges Kazeminy initially tried to get money directly to the senator.

Both Coleman and Kazeminy have denied any wrongdoing, and Coleman last month said he welcomes an investigation.

Neither Coleman nor his office has been contacted by the FBI, spokesman LeRoy Coleman said Tuesday morning.

"We have not been contacted by any law enforcement or investigative authority on this matter," he said.

On Tuesday evening, Coleman's campaign released the following statement: "We are not aware of any investigation that is under way, nor have we been contacted by any agency with respect to this matter. As we have said repeatedly, we welcome any investigation of these lawsuits by the appropriate authorities to get to the bottom of these baseless, sleazy and politically inspired allegations."

The campaign provided no evidence for the claim that the allegations are "politically inspired."

A lawsuit alleges that Kazeminy tried to funnel money directly to Sen. Coleman. Sam Stein reported recently for the Huffington Post that Coleman could face an ethics investigation for his ties to Kazeminy if he is reelected to the Senate. A Minnesota good government group has called for am FBI probe.

Calling Ted Stevens, calling Ted Stevens! Calling Larry Craig, calling Larry Craig! Calling Mark Foley, calling Mark Foley! Yup, yup, we've got another one! Come see the incredible shrinking Blago! Now taking the mantle of most infamous Serb since Slobodan Milošević. At lease Blago hasn't "done away" with anybody that we know of, yet!

Living proof that we've got some of the best toe tapping, page acosting politicians money can buy in both parties. Rangel next? Stay tuned.

I THINK WE NEED TERM LIMITS, THE WAY IT IS NOW< THEY"VE BEEN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR< AND ARE ONLY WORKING FOR THOSE< THAT BOUGHT THEM

The best congress money can buy. The bigger problem is we cant trust em to stay bought. Always looking for a higher bidder.

Term limits will not stop them either. Where there is money, there are crooks.

Go back to constitutional. Eliminating of Federal Reserve (that alone forces a balanced budget) and back to electoral county votes for candidates(eliminates majority rule, reestablishing the republic). That would dry up the hole for lobbyists of both the electors and welfare corps.

the white southern senators are losing their minds. They feel the country is slipping out of their corrupt hands and absolute unquestioning control. They're panicky and scared because there are too many non-white foreigners and too many educated African Americans in their mist.

They long for the good ole days of legal segregation and jim crow. They would rather see America spiral down to hell fires than to have equal justice and equal access for ALL Americans.

Other areas of the country are just as corrupt, no region in the USA can claim any moral high ground. It's not just the South, and to blame all the ills of our political system on one region of the country is pure ignorance.

I'd prefer we clean up the whole house, rather than just the front porch.

You omitted affirmative action, when "whites only need to apply". While complaining there are victims of reverse discrimination.

Bush is right. FAR right.

Aside from that, he's been consistently wrong on everything he's done. Interesting legacy- he hasn't done one single solitary thing his entire time in office a person could say benefitted Americans.

But we all know GWB is the Arabian Candidate anyway.

Why is the country focusing on something as unimportant as a corrupt democratic governor trying to sell a Senate seat, among other things?

This is SERIOUS! This is a REPUBLICAN here whose been accused of somthing!

Yeah, I agree. With all the Republicans either in prison, indicted, or under investigation, listening to yet another report on the conservative culture of corruption is getting tired and boring.

Actually, I was getting bored with all of the stories of Republican corruption. After about the 300th one, you start going "Another one? Who cares". It's about time we had us a rare corrupt democrat scandal.

Ok...truth is, I'm truly pissed at this guy for giving the right wing anything to feed on. He's corrupt, narcissistic and will do anything for money. Wait...are we SURE he's not a republican?

lol Well it's a lot more fun if it's a Republican. I'd prefer to see Al Franken in the Senate over Norm Coleman any day, I actually care about that race.

With Blago and Jackson - throw them to the wolves. I don't care what happens to them. As for Coleman and his questionable financial ties - who knows? It will likely end up just this side of legal. As usual.

The, of course, there was the infamous 1991 governors race in Louisiana. This was the one that pitted the racist klansman, and neo-Nazi, David Duke against the notoriously corrupt former governor Edwin Edwards. This is the election that produced the now famous bumper sticker "Vote For the Crook - It's Important!"

Yeah, you "can't believe..." because it hasn't happened yet.

The recount is still going up here in MN and no one has declared Coleman "re-elected." Except, I guess, you. Do you know something the rest of us don't? If so, please enlighten us.

He shouldn't have even gotten this close. Yeah, why did a corrupt politician pull enough support to get a hundred or so votes away from re election? What does this remind me of? Bush in 2004, maybe?

I "welcome any investigation" usually means, "I am guilty as charged. However, my lawyers and accountants all agree that there is no way for any court of law to prove it...as long as everyone just shuts the **** up this minute."

Good luck if you get stuck with Coleman, Minnesota. Personally, I'd rather be represented by a smart, snarky comedy writer with a nose for politics.

Interesting to read all the funny comments on Coleman and Blago's appearance(s). Along with millions of others I wondered how anyone could hire W for anything requiring seasoned judgement when you look at the shape of his head and how close together his eyes are. If he were a dog or a horse, you could immediately call the odds. If the eyes are the mirror of the soul doesn't that tell us lots about W.?
50 years ago Miss Marple was finding guily partys all over the village by making these kinds of observations. It's not about good looking or ugly , Mother Theresa was beautiful to many. It's about using your own eyes. Seems once America saw beyond their own prejudices to elect Obama, eyes are opening all over. You GO Americans!

Yeah!

Is it just me, or is the photo of Coleman on the Huffpost Home page today the worst, ever? Poor man.

All those fanatics who claim that they see public figures shape-shifting into their reptilian alien forms under pressure must be having a field day. I mean, if you look closely you can almost see the reptile bulging out of his cheecks and neck and jaw. He is even starting to look green there.

What a hoot. What a fiasco.

Gosh, Minnesota is usually much more well-organized than this; all we Norwegian Lutherans run a tight ship, don'tcha know. How did they let this monster of a mess loose?! Oh, wait, there WAS that whole Jesse Ventura episode. Ooops. I withdraw my statement.

I have a solution to all the problems of the day:

- Coleman (called "Norm-the-clotheshorse" on tapes), who's proved he's more of a Chicago politician than Obama ever was, should move to Illinois.
- he should bring $5 million with him
- Blagojevich appoints him to Obama's open senate seat (after due consideration of hte $5 million)
- Franken gets the Minnesota seat
- The FBI gets to consolidate their operations in one state,
- Illinois can have trials out the kazoo for Blago & Norm-the-clotheshorse

I'm nothing if not a problem solver

The article states, "Last month Coleman said he welcomed an investigation."

Right.

Isn't that what Palin said, once upon a time?

Are these people really getting the thorough "investigations" they need to clear their names?

What about your Democratic criminal class? With the governor of the State that the PE is from having been arrested yesterday, I'm not sure that today is the day to be crowing about Coleman being under investigation. Perhaps it would be a good time to admit that both sides are corrupt.
