The 44-year-old future first lady's immediate influence on fashion "has nothing to do with fashion trends," says Mr. Tahari, who plans to put the dress in ads this spring and in stores in June. "Her style is all about the woman being noticed, not just the dress."

After years of unsuccessful attempts to satisfy middle-aged women -- a high-spending but difficult-to-please demographic -- the U.S. apparel industry is rejoicing that it has finally found its muse. In design studios along Seventh Avenue and in retail strategy sessions at stores from Talbots to Saks Fifth Avenue, designers and executives are holding up Mrs. Obama as their Baby Boomer pinup girl.

I just don't want her to wear anymore prints or flowers....and I'm not fond the broches either.....I like the dress she had on at the Convention and when she went to meet with the president......that election night dress must have been worn out of love for someone that she knew and promised she would wear it......

I'll say it. Too many broaches, prints and flowers. They age any woman and that election night dress, with the flat shoes was the worst. That was the first time the world would see the first African American First Lady, and I feel she should have look more polished and complete. I hope she gets a personal stylist. She has a beautiful figure and can wear anything, but personally, I feel she would look better in bright colored solids, the flowers and broaches make her look much too old. One more thing, she should lightly spray her hair before she comes into public view. No it's not a big thing, it will just add to the first lady polish that she should display. She married to the most powerful man in the world, I feel she has to become a little more conscious of her style. She is tall with a wonderful figure, she should flaunt it. The dress she wore to meet the president and first lady looked best on her. Smooth, bold color, body conscious sleek and solid, with a medium heel. But, Barack loves her and that makes everything all right with me.

I think she looks wonderful in anything she puts on... it is her style and I find it very refreshing.

Bad headline alert. MO's not my muse. But I would like better fashion in order to enhance my style, thank you. It's been a long drought and I know other women who feel the same. If she inspires designers and retailers to help outfit a mature woman's style, so much the better.

She's not a muse to YOU, she's a muse to designers who dress the 40+ crowd.

Really? We're talking about her clothes? When I saw the title of the article, I thought I would be reading about a confident and capable woman inspiring a nation of women/girls in the areas of career and motherhood. Instead, I get consumerism. And yes, yes, I know this was in the STYLE section, but I think Michele balances family and work life with style, so I guess I mislead myself.
