Fox News

CJR:

Google "looked at the most popular searches conducted for 11 months of 2008 (we compile this list by early December) and ranked them based on how much their frequency increased compared to 2007," dubbing these the "fastest rising" search terms of the year (h/t Kevin Drum). And?

"Fastest rising" search in Google News? "Sarah Palin." "Fastest rising" search in Google Images? "Sarah Palin". "Fastest rising" search for Google proper? "Obama." And "Fox News" is sixth and the only news org on that list. (Why so many more "Fox News" Google searches this past year than in 2007? All entirely election-related? Or, what?)

"Fox" also tops the "Top Sources [Searched] For Political News" in 2008 list.

Numbers don't lie.

Again, if the others MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, etc were even close to the center Fox would be out a job.

Look at the headlines on this blog, NYT and Detroit Free Press hitting hard times. All of these dum^^^^^ will be out of a job about the time they figure this out.

Rave on. Stay the same.

We can discourage the dishonest narrative in the news media. Send a strong message. Sign the FCC News Quality Rating petition to make news media more accountable to the public. Fox won the Florida Appeals Case that ok'd lying to the public in news reporting rendering journalism unrecognizable. http://FixNewsNow.org - Democracy needs responsible journalism, free press, accountability in the media - Take a stand folks. Capitalism and Journalism can coexist. Temper the "greed" factor. If we save journalism, we'll save democracy. Support a News Quality Rating System - sign the petition

The placement on the list Google sends back as a reply to a request has to do more with how much Google is paid. Companies pay fee to be listed ahead of those who don't or pay less. It has little or nothing to do with the quality of the URL that you are being directed to.

NYT eigth? They have more free content and in depth reporting than all the other sites combined (sorry, Huffpo). Probably ranked so low because people are just to lazy to read longer articles.

My guess is that most of the Faux types don't know where to find the address bar, save a bookmark, or change their homepage so ... I propose a new google slogan: 'Search for the least knowledgeable".

I guess more people prefer fantasy and entertainment over truth and reality.

May I ask why there is so much hate for Fox News and so much love for MSNBC?

They are the same exact thing in my mind, propaganda tools for different parties. If you believe one tells the truth and the other one lies . . . you are probably a partisan hack or not very smart.

I usually leave open the Google News page and am amazed at how many stories list Fox News as the top source, even stories that have little to do with politics. I think Fox simply knows how to optimize its material for a Google search.

I have a difficult time understanding how any open dialogue can occur when people who have differing perspectives are simply labeled as stupid. Too often those who claim that they are champions of diversity have no tolerance for diversity of opinion.

Bin Laden is pleased with the increasing stupidity of Americans

Getting the most hits on a Google search engine does not necessarily translate into the most admired or respected.

I agree. I wonder if online-savvy liberal searchers are more willing to view news from conservatively biased sites like Drudge and Fox to see what they're saying, as opposed to folks who refuse to hear a liberal perspective because it challenges their worldview and causes cognitive dissonance?

How many people going on the web for news are so uninformed that they have to search for a news source? Oh, FAUX viewers...

It's because MSNBC, The Huffington Post, The Daily Show, and even CNN are in our favorites list. Sometimes you just have to hear what the crazies are saying and you're not going to find FOX on a favorites list.

If seems odd that the ratings don't reflect that.

Not surprising at all. Face facts, there are many more ignorant, stupid people than there are intelligent ones. PBS, BBC News, nowhere to be seen. Fox speaks the language clearly understood by occupants of the shallow end of the gene pool.
