The Bush administration plans to sign its first nuclear-cooperation agreement with a Middle Eastern nation within the next few weeks, according to a senior U.S. official, raising concerns among congressional critics who say the deal could fuel nuclear proliferation in the region.

The proposed deal with the United Arab Emirates has attracted attention because the U.A.E.'s largest trading partner is Iran. The U.A.E. has served in the past as a transshipment point for technology with military applications headed to Iran.

"The U.A.E. says its nuclear-power program will have extensive safeguards to protect against nuclear materials being diverted. It has pledged to purchase nuclear fuel for its reactors from outside suppliers, rather than developing its own fuel. It says it would store nuclear waste externally. Also, it has agreed to allow monitoring and snap inspections by the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency."

They are going to develop nuclear-power any way so why not have UN oversight? The signing was held off because they didn't want to move ahead without knowing that Obama would be for it. Once he again he has no comment, so we must assume that he's on board with this!!!

What are you people complaining about? Do you like the sound you make when you whine?

SO - Iran has no right to nuclear energy, because they will only divert it to weapons. And we will even go to war with Iran to prevent nuclear technology acquisition. But the U.A.E. has every right to nuclear energy, and we will sell it to them. Even though they trade with Iran bigtime. This is as smart as the U.S. invading Iraq to remove Iran's biggest enemy. Oh wait..we did that, too...

If the UAE wants nuclear power they will get it. Be it us or someone else. If we say no, then they will go to china, who would be more then happy to supply the technology. If we supply the technology then we have complete oversight over its use. If china supplies the technology then we have no oversight.

The piece de resistance. The oil men of the world, Bushes included, have everything they could possibly want now. Armed to the teeth, a greatly weakened US with it's military scattered around the globe and it's economy in ruins. Sure, they made it look like bin Laden and Al Qaeda were responsible, they gave us the face of the enemy, but who were the real puppetmasters funding the numerous diversions that allowed a handful of conniving bas*ards to plunder this country. Nice sleight of hand, and we were asleep at the wheel. Is there any way back? Can we stop this madman from deploying nuclear weapons to another unstable region of the world? Or will we continue to endlessly in-fight over the imposition of the will of one group over another (e.g. gay marriage, abortion and gun ownership) while allowing others to do do far more harm; our Constitution has been shredded, our military has been stretched thin and is being used solely to defend the oil supply and the UAE, and our economy is broken.

For all intents and purposes, mission accomplished, we finally know who the real terrorists are. But, we sort of knew all along.

The US has already permitted nuclear arms to be inserted into the region, Israel has about 200. That's the fuse on nuclear instability in the mideast, and we paid for it with our aid to Israel, which theoretically should be cancelled if they don't give up these weapons.

Don't hold your breath.

Did you read the article? It's nuclear-power not weapons!! Turn the liberal arguement about the uranium that was shipped out of Iraq ths past July to this. Liberals say that uranium was for nuclear-power, hence, no WMD. If the Iraq uranium was for nuclear-power how can you say that this is for nuclear weapons?

The same way some could use a couple of hundred gallons of kerosene to either heat a home over the course of several weeks or take out an entire office building in a few milliseconds.

Gee, Israel is going to finally admit to their 300 nuclear bomb arsenal. Long overdue.

North American Union...Google it.

Also the "Corporate World Government" cannot have a strong, prosperous Democratic America if they are to take over the world. Reagan started all this in 1980
You really need to read The Shock Doctrine - Naomi Klein to understand what's happening here.

Has there been any other president who's gone haywire like this in his last couple of months in office? My history on that is a little dark.
