I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tom Cruise appeared on the "Tonight Show" Thursday to promote his WWII drama "Valkyrie," but wound up sharing his musical ambitions and Elvis impersonation in the process. When host Jay Leno asked Cruise if he'd ever consider doing Broadway and musicals, he replied, "Yes, I'd like to do a musical," then confessed he had enjoyed performing in "Guys and Dolls" in high school (which prompted Leno to shout "Broadway is my LIFE!").

Leno then asked Cruise if he'd ever sung on television, and he answered "No, I haven't...we should do that now," before breaking into Elvis's "Blue Suede Shoes"-- tentatively at first, but as the audience egged him on he picked up momentum. Finally, he jumped off the couch to do a little hip gyration as Leno shouted "Yeah! Yeah!"

Since the couch, everything he does has a hint of crazy.

Especially, when you look into his eyes.

Yeah seriously guys..what's happened to our society that a man is deemed crazy for being overly exuberant.. he's not the president, he's an actor, he's our trained monkey, we pay him to entertain us, and by god he does a phenomenal job. His cameo in Tropic Thunder was the best I've seen in years...

I suppose that one must be fairly odd to go into show business and even odder to be wildly successful. Tom is is not the only odd person to be a very successful star. But that's it. He is very odd. Successful? Yes. Odd...yes and yes and yes. No matter how many interviews Oprah, Dave or Jay do with these celebrities they can not fully convince us that they are just regular folks like us who happen to be stars. We love the fact that Tom is odd. It's part of the way he entertains us That is why celebrity mags are so enticing. Their dysfunction becomes part of the show for us. Some stars have the mental health and intelligence to keep their oddities to themselves. They are much more convincing as artists because we only see the result of their peculiarities in their performances. Once we see how odd they actually are, their whole lives become part of the show.

Look at Pitt and Jolie. Their huge family is seemingly admirable but also slightly scary and eccentric. The adoptions would be much more normative if they weren't dragging these kids all over the world but instead giving them the stability that all kids need and crave. We are waiting for a Sun Yi-like moment... We continue to nibble on their lives like we do junk food. We know that it's not good for us but we do it anyway. That's why it's so much fun.

Sorry, I cannot take him and all his Scientology nonsense. A silly person.

I get a kick out of Tom Cruise. He was AMAZING in Tropic Thunder. Him and RDJ were the best parts of that movie, but Tom stood out even more than RDJ's role, which was controversial. But not nearly as in your face or memorable as Tom Cruise's character. Not even close.

I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but that was a pretty good impersonation!

This was a fun, easy going interview...

There was nothing creepy about Tom in it whatsoever. Creepiness is in the eye of the beholder.

He's an entertainer, he entertains well, he's got game and he can have fun. He's exuberant about his lady love and he adores his child.

Where's the creepy???!

I'm hanging my head in embarassment.

I saw part of the Elvis "impersonation", unwittingly.

TC doesn't have 1/1000th of EP's charisma.

Go back to your room, Tommy.

Of course, I meant the early, original, pre-military EP.

NSN, you are not his father or mother ---are you? No, I don't think so.

Now, - I missed the way I would see you on a lot of posts, but Huffy has grown...have ya noticed?. It's all good. All good.

Now, for what it's worth, on topic, ---Tom Cruise is a scientologist and sao is Lisa Marie, one of my best friend's, and her mother - who I used to walk fast from because I knew she wanted to be an OT when I was taken by Chick Coreas best friend. @What a book in the works, Aye? Should I live to choose to live that long. I know somebody up there likes me. You can't win them all/.

Tom Cruise is a complete wacko - or a Scientologist - one or the other or both.

The latter is not found without the former. To believe in the writings of a sci-fi writer who started this religion as a lark requires no small amount of whackiness.

Yeah, but I love his life, beautiful wife, 6 airplanes, houses all over the world. He is the All-American roast beef kid.
