New York Times:

The White House has turned down a request from the family of President-elect Barack Obama to move into Blair House in early January so that his daughters can start school on January 5.

The Obamas were told that Blair House, where incoming presidents usually stay in the five days before Inauguration Day, is booked in early January, a spokesperson to the Obama transition said. "We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,' the spokesperson said. "But, there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn't be displaced."

I love Obama, but he is not the president until January 20. Until then, he really should make his own arrangements for alternate housing. He has enough secret service and money to get a private house elsewhere, and let Bush/Cheney finish their term with dignity.

What does his request have to do with Bush/Cheney's dignity?

For the record.....Bush and Cheney have no dignity. They have left America in ruins and very vulnerable. Where is the dignity in that?

What dignity?

Let me clarify....

I'm no fan of the Bush White House. 41 or 43.

But they need to wrap up their business and that runs up to and including January 20. Bush will be gone soon enough. In the mean time, Obama needs to find his own way.

And I love Obama. :)

Yeah, what dignity. They did not start with dignity and they are not finishing with it. Give me a break. Tell Bush that kids are being left behind because they want to party. Do it in their apartments.

So who is that "dignitary" you think American tax payers money is better used to accomodate him and provide him with security at the expense of the Next President elected by the American tax payers?

You lost me when you put Bush/Cheney and the word dignity in the same
phrase.

Have you looked around you for the past 8 years?

It wouldn't pay for me to go there (transfer) I wouldn't even trust the best cleaning crew. I'd have to get down and do it myself. I'd scrub the surface off of it. I'd be Howard Hughs over it. I'd scrub my life away. (You see I do that anyway with my hands.) I haven't had even a mild cold in more than 12 years. If peoples minds are bad then there health is certainly bad.

I think it would be extremely gracious if the Cheneys moved out of the vice-president's residence early and offered the Obamas THEIR place. It has all the right security, etc.

However, since Cheney is not known to be particularly "gracious," I guess THAT won't happen.

That would happen when the cows come home.
Cheney is the ultimate misanthrope.

This is funny, ya'll! Think about it, its December - the Right Wing was mad and called him the Messiah, but this response begs one to reflect upon another couple who could not find room at the inn and was dispatched to another location! (What another AMAZING coincidence!) Sorry, I could not resist that! :-)

Given what the new main thread is about, this Blair House thing is nothing.

Except that it is customary for the President elects' family to move to this location before an inaugauration. Do you think on January 20th they just take their luggage and moving vans following him to DC from Chicago for the swearing-in?

Wow. It's ok PE Obama; things will work out so that your daughters can start school on time. We always pray for you.

Did you pray for Bush?

Prayers won't help him....He's too far gone,it would take a miracle.

Aside from an excuse to be petty and snarky [again], B no doubt has a crop of friends and cronies staying over while they can, getting as much out of the taxpayer perks as possible. Staying at the Hilton just wouldn't be the same, and that's why he's not asking anyone to vacate Blair House. The Blair House is the object.
