Late Night

Although late night news this week was dominated by Jay Leno's move to 10PM, there was still a full week of political jokes. Most focused on Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, with Leno, Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, and Jon Stewart all cracking jokes at the corrupt Governor's expense.

Elsewhere, Jimmy Kimmel diversified with footage of evangelical Christian protesters, and David Letterman brought one of his final editions of Great Moments in Presidential Speeches.

You just can't make that up. If I wrote a novel where character President spoke like our esteemed duck, the editors would slash it to h**l saying "No one would buy this...too contrived...not even believably stupid." And yet...

Maybe Bush could have a talk show that would keep him off of corporate boards like Blackwater and other companies that have received no-bid contracts over the past 7+ years.

The top comedians can never even come close to the Baby Bush; God, he is a hoot. Our mirth is always tempered knowing that Baby Bush getting plastered and making hysterically funny speeches is one thing but Baby Bush getting plastered and trying to rule the world is quite another.

Does anyone remember the satellite interview Bush did with Letterman when he was running in 2000? OMG! Bush was such a dolt, I figured he was finished. I think Letterman thought so too, as well as Candice Bergen who followed. I'm still shocked he survived it. But thank goodness Letterman has kept records of all Bush's subsequent gaffes so we can laugh our way to ar mageddon.

I remember the Letterman interview too and I thought Bush was done when it was over. He made some crack about Letterman's heart trouble that was totally unfunny. He seemed like a total jerk. I was shocked when that performance wasn't the end of him. Was The Huffington Post around then?

Notice the Festivus comment in the news story text during Kimmell's segment.

on what do you base your assessment that George is a good Christian? I would think a "good Christian" might have a higher respect for human life and the earth God gave us.

George Bush is a good Christian. That's all that matters to me.

and how do you determine if someone is a good christian or not?

I don't know what constitutes a good Christian. But if what I've read about Jesus is true, I seriously doubt he and Bush would be friends.

LOL!! Say what you will but I am going to miss that George Bush like crazy. Maybe he'll still give interviews once he's out of office that way we get the best of both worlds: something to laugh at, and him with no power what so ever.

Man, those Bush gaffes are atrocious.

How'd this guy get elected, again?

Let's see how did he get elected - or re-elected? How about this...there wasn't enough outrage. Registered Democrats like, oh I don't know, Obama's new social secretary, contributed $2000 for Bush's relection! Obama has really disappointed me this week. Read Frank Rich's editorial in the NYT about accountability -- it's sobering how history repeats itself.

Letterman needs to compile a CD of Dumya's speeches... it'd sell like hotcakes... uh, flap jacks... uh, uh, you know that Waffle House stuff...

The real STUPID people are the people who think W is doing a very good job and actually wanted to vote for his protégé McCain and Palin. Our country has too many Joe the plumbers who are willing to drag our country to doom by sheer ignorance. Like Obama says we certainly have to work on our educational system.

Read Kitty Kelly's book on the Bush family. You'll understand why the Shrub and Laura are high-tailin' it back to Texas. Shrub never felt comfortable at Harvard or Yale. Many of his classmates thought he was dumb as a duck and just gaped at him every time he dared open his mouth.
