Obama's Friends Form Strategy To Stay Close

Last Sunday night, President-elect Barack Obama's three closest friends -- Valerie Jarrett, Martin Nesbitt and Dr. Eric Whitaker -- sat down in the study of Mr. Nesbitt's house in Chicago for one of their increasingly frequent heart-to-hearts.

They were puzzling over a new question: how the Obamas, who hope to remain close to their Chicago friends, will spend time with them while living in the isolation chamber of the White House. Over Diet Cokes, the three drafted the beginnings of an elaborate visiting schedule that will bring Hyde Park to Washington, so the nation's new first family can have a little taste of home.

they are lucky to have such a tight knit group of friends, not everyone has the luck to find lifelong friends like that. it's too bad the piece has to throw in the now requisite absurd guilt by association at the end there, lest we forget these people are all from chicago, you know that place where apparently all the shady people on the face of the planet live.

Great idea on the no new friends rule. Too many people are either out to get something for themselves (fake friends) to boast about the relationship or they're out to bring them down due to jealousy. Stick with those who had your back when it wasn't popular to do so.

I'm under the impression that his friends consist of group of high-achieving professionals clustered in and around Chicago. I'm sure he intends to stay in touch and maybe even invite them to his new home.

Heck, I may get to visit the 'white house' have lunch, maybe even dinner.

Because, I know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone else, who has an acquaintance, who knows someone that's included in that inner circle of friends.

I'm really glad the Obamas have their friends and plan on seeing them regularly. The transition to the D.C. scene is going to be easier this way.
