Saturday Night Live welcomed Hugh Laurie as host for the final show of 2008. The biggest news came during Weekend Update Amy Poehler said goodbye to her days as a castmember.

Two of the other highlights also came from Weekend Update. In what will be their final installment of "Really?!? with Seth and Amy," the Update anchors address Illinois Governor Blagojevich's refusal to resign his position. In addition to the stupidity of being caught on a wire, they addressed his hair.

"It's beside the point, but... The hair. Really! It looks you're wearing a toupee that's also wearing a toupee. It's a pro-ceeding hairline... The first time I saw you, I thought you were walking away."

And in a hilarious new impression, Fred Armisen played legally blind New York Governor David Paterson, discussing filling Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.

This weekend's digital short steered clear of after-hours content and stuck to more innocent topics: cookies and the digestive system. Despite learning he may get fired, one worker just can't control himself in the presence of cookies. If only they were just cookies.

WATCH:

Another skit featured a few inappropriate wedding toasts to the bride and groom, including one from the bride's ex boyfriend, played by Fred Armisen.

I know we are in tough economic times, but couldn't SNL hire some more black actors? If they are going to portray Blacks.

I'm back watching snl after all these yrs......the Paterson piece was hilarious

I love humor and Paterson is a great target of humor because of his history but I felt it was over the top. Sometimes SNL tries too hard to be humorous!

Only in America can you have a blind coke head in office!

@ thoma. Gov Patterson overcame his demons and disability to become governor of NY state. What have you accomplished in life that has come close to that?

Listen for the past few years I have been working as a recruiter placing losers worse of than Patterson to work and making sure they have a second and third chance at life. So pardon me let me ask you what have you done? Have you put any souls to work? Have you put food, clothing, or given shelter to anyone? I somehow think not!

Have to admit last weekends SNL was one of the funniest episodes I have seen in a while. I do not know why everyone is making such a fuss about the David Patterson skit, I mean Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder they all were made fun off. People have to stop being so damn sensitive and politically correct its horrible and weak. How can you say blind coked up guy is not funny? People Get a life!

Unlike comics making fun of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder over the years, SNL made Gov Patterson out to be a incompetent buffoon based solely on his (blindness) disability. I saw nothing funny about this clip. It was actually uncomfortable to watch.

It was stupid and it felt so freaking uncomfortable, one thing is to make "fun" of his personnality, that would be fine; but it felt as if SNL is making fun of his blindness and/or his capabilities as Governor....!!!!!

If you want to make fun of the Governor because you think he's an idiot by all mean do so. But to mock his blindness is below contempt. SNL owes all vision impaired people of this country an apology.

Should all channels with comedy shows give an apology to all the elderly from making jokes about John McCain's age? Where does it end everyone will be apologizing to everyone else for something that what said about some issue. Relax. SNL has done skits on Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder and nobody had fits about it.

Old age is something everybody usually deals with, blindness is not!
Big difference.
The writing has really gotten desperate and bleak! No longer funny!

oh, please! snl is refreshing because they aren't politically correct!!!

To the people that thought it was wrong and tasteless, you have must all become victims of the politically correct media. And you took it all in hook, line, and sinker. Eddie Murphy did Stevie Wonder impressions all the time, and everything was fine and funny. Now about 25 years later the exact same event happens on SNL and people thinks its horrible. POLITICALLY CORRECTNESS WINS OVER AGAIN, WHAT A SHAME.

Big difference between Murphy's impressions and an entire "skit" about the governor's blindness mimicked by "bumbling mistakes".
SNL misses the real comedy possibilities and seems to go after Demos when there is far more choice material on the Republican side of the aisle--no bias there, Haaa!

'BLACKFACE' is insulting and shameful.

For people who call themselves 'progressives' to watch this minstrel show week in and week without any moral or ethical discomfort because you just wanna laugh is the real problem and always has been in this country.

Can Huffpost help keep SNL ratings up?

I actually liked this episode, partly because Hugh Laurie is great in anything. The Patterson sketch was meh, but when he walked into the shot when Amy Pohler was saying goodbye, that was hilarious.
I don't think this post posted the best sketches (save the Really?! one). I was laughing at the Christmas dinner one.
Amy Poehler can't go...She made SNL bearable...I pray to God Lorne wont put Kristen Wiig at the Update desk...I cannot stand her. She does the same demented character in every sketch, running it to the ground.

Its true, Kristen's demented characters are a bit much, but you can't deny they're funny. sometimes funny, yes, but funny nonetheless.

One of the weaker episodes of the season. The David Paterson bit may have been a bit tasteless, but it WAS a highlight.

Gerald Ford didn't like being portrayed as a bumbling idiot by Chevy Chase, Palin covered her rearend by saying she didn't have the sound on with the first Tina Fey impersonation....sorry Patterson....Armison was hilarious.

I agree,that was friggin awesome.
When he wandered into Amy Poehler's saccharine goodbye,
well it was sad and funny instead of just sad.
Keep up the good work SNL. =]

I thought the sketch was quite funny. It's true that a lot of people here in NYC don't care much for Jersey. He has Patterson's voice, cold. And I didn't find the humor to be sophmoric or scatological at all. He did say that New Jersey stinks, but well, it does. Aside from that, it wasn't mean or bad. All in all, a very funny sketch.

That's the last time I try to check video online from SNL. It's always missing, so why do you try to post it in the first place. And why is SNL relevant anymore anyway?
