What would be awesome is if the Huff Post got a group of psychologists together to discuss the responses to this post. Race still matters, yes? I love America! :-)

The actual ancient depiction of young Cleopatra that these pseudo 'scientists/scholars' used to create their dubious 'black 3D African' Cleopatra look nothing alike. The original ancient depiction of the real Cleopatra differs greatly from their inaccurate modern depiction. It shows the actual young Cleopatra with European Caucasian features: pointy chin, fat neck, hooked nose and droopy eyes which was an indication of her families constent inbreeding so they can preserve their European Ptolemaic bloodline and bares no likeness at all like the dubious one these wannabee 'scholars' inaccurately 'recreated' of a girl with 'African features'.

Cleopatra came from a family, the Ptolemaic Dynasty, who were of Greek origins and INBRED with one another, this inbreeding not only suggests they preserved their Hellenic ethnicity and culture but their bloodline would have been preserved as well and since they came from a region in Greece where fair coloring is very common then Cleopatra, as ancient depictions clearly show, was fair colored. Her ancient busts and coins show a European light skinned woman, her ancient busts from her time period still have traces of reddish gold that was her hair color, a hair color we know was common among the Ptolemies.

My goodness! This is really getting to you, isn't it? Take a chill pill and relax. We won't take your precious Cleo away from Liz.

She was not dark and Greeks are not blacks nor do they have 'coarse hair' especially the females. I know many Greeks and they are Caucasian light skinned EUROPEANS who don't look any different from other EUROPEANS. The region of Greece that Cleopatra came from is known for the people being fair complexion and she is a direct descendant of Alexander the Great, anyone who has seen pictures and read ancient descriptions of ATG knows he was of fair coloring. First and for most Cleopatra wasn't a native Egyptian, she was Greek ruler who's family colonized and ruled Egypt for a while. She was like the whites who ruled South African for a while but weren't black or mixed or anything like that. She was a pure bred white Greek girl, not a black Nubian sister nor a native Egyptian for that matter. Her family the Ptolemaic Dynasty inbred with one another. . When Cleopatra ruled Egypt, Egypt was more Hellenic Greek then native Egyptian especially Alexanderia. The Ptolemies even changed most of the Egyptian names cities and towns had to Greek to reflect their Greek heritage.

What a bunch of hogwash. That's no real depictions of the actual Cleopatra, its PC gone a muck!! Trying to ancient persona into 'blacks or mixed' even historical people like Cleopatra who CLEARLY were not black nor mixed black, based upon nothing but their own heresay and "ethnic diversity" of modern ignorance. Cleopatra was of Greek origins not black, she came from a long line of Hellenic rulers who inbred with one another, so it would be pretty hard for her to be a mixed black girl given Greeks ARE NOT BLACKS. Do you guys want to see the actual ancient depiction of young Cleopatra that these clowns used to come up with this FAKE modern inaccurate "black African Cleopatra"? This one:
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/3102/cleopatrainnaplesnationhu5.jpg

Where on Gods Green Earth do they see ANY resemblance with the ancient depiction of young Cleopatra from above where she clearly has white European feature from her thin lips, melon fashion hair which was typical of young Greek girls back then, pointy chin, fat neck, hooked nose and droopy eyes which was an indication of her families constent inbreeding so they can preserve their European Ptolemaic bloodline, to make her look like a black African girl with black features and dreads is beyong logic itself.

This raises suspicion because it was well known that Cleopatra was not physically attractive. Her wit and intellect were supposedly her best features. Plus the power of her status. And probably her sexuality. But, who knows.

It unbelievable that some people still think the Egyptian were white.

Well here is a history lesson…

The original Egyptian came from Ancient Nubia, now called the Sudan and Ethiopia. The Nile river follows down from Mt Kilimanjaro to modern day Egypt (note: the todays modern maps are upside down).

Here is map of Ancient Nubia: http://wysinger.homestead.com/files/nile_nubia.jpg

The original Egyptian migration DOWN the Nile River to the modern day Sudan and Ethiopia to modern day Egypt.

Picture of Ancient Kerma (Nubia) in modern-day Sudan:

There are more pyramids in the Sudan then in Egypt. See for yourself:

I don’t want to be long-winded but this video is narrated by a British scholar Basil Davidson and its very informative:

Cleopatra was half Greek, one -quarter Egyptian and one quarter African. Her paternal grandmother was a Nubian concubine of her grandfather's.

The Greek Ptolemy line intermarried each other, to keep power and wealth in the family, however, they were allowed to seek their real comfort elsewhere and the products of such unions were given high positions in Egyptian society, and Cleopatra's father was a product of such a union, thus Cleopatra has was at least one quarter African..

The movie "Gladiator" attempted to show the interdependence of people barring different skin colors in that time of history more accurately than any other film of the modern age.

When I was in Egypt I was told that the ancient inhabitants, the original people, were more or less Somalian and Ethiopia in descent.

Sigh. Read a History book will you?
Cleopatra was a Queen of the Ptolemy line, who were GREEK.
Remember, Alexander the Great conquered Egypt (along with everything else in the Mid-East) and his General, Ptolemy was given control of Egypt as a reward for his loyalty and bravery. (How do you think the city of Alexandria was named?)
All the rulers of Egypt after that were Greek, with HEAVY Greek influence in the country. They adopted the trappings of the Pharaohs to appease the indigenous populace and this is known as the "Greek Period" of Egyptian history.

Kemet (Egypt) was ruled by neighboring kingdoms way before Alexander.
So it's silly to believe that it never had "leadership" until Alexander got there.

While I respect Liz and thinks he's a wonderful actress and made a good Cleopatra in her time.....

My hands down favorite has to be Claudette Colbert in the very first, which was a black & white film, version of a Cleopatra movie. But then, I suppose I have a fetish for that golden age of Hollywood. ;o)

The first time I saw a non-white portray Cleopatra, was the 1999 television movie which starred Leonor Varela as Cleopatra.

She definitely had the skin complexion to pull off the look that Cleopatra would have had I suppose. I got the dvd around here somewhere, lol, but need to refresh my memory before I can give it any kind of review, lol. Other than it was "alright". ;o)

Looks more like Jada Pinkett than Liz Taylor, but that's what they do - Europeanize everyone of importance.

May I also add (for anybody debating the "blackness or african-ness" of Egypt.
(Kemet) which greeks called "Egypt" -"land of the black sand" was ruled by NUBIA for eons
before the greeks even knew it was there. Egypt's gold, and other form of wealth were sourced from
the great land of nubia(composed of "all black" africans). Even the face on the Sphinx is that of a Nubian prince awarded the rule of Egypt from his father. "This is the dynasty that was said to have restored Kemet to it's original pharaohnic traditions."

If Elizabeth Taylor looked like me she would never have played Cleopatra.I am a fan of hers -to me she is the most beautiful woman ever in the movies-nothing more, nothing less meant by my comment.
