U.S. Rep. Danny Davis wants to be the next U.S. senator from Illinois -- but not enough to accept if Gov. Rod Blagojevich appoints him.

"If the governor called tonight and asked, 'I'd like for you to be the senator,' I'd say, 'Mr. Governor, I thank you so very much for the confidence that you are expressing in me, but I'm afraid the people have lost confidence in you,'" Davis said.

He said he would "respectfully decline" because he believes Blagojevich has forfeited his "moral authority."
