Blank Bag

The Daily Beast:

At Hermes and a handful of other exclusive retailers, "secret shopping" has becoming the winter season's newest trend. Anyone who can still afford, say, the three cashmere throws at $2,225 each that Mrs. Fuld bought when she stopped by the store that day isn't likely to advertise it. Instead, the city's most extravagant shoppers are ferrying their purchases home in unmarked bags; delegating delivery to assistants; or manipulating credit card bills to disguise their spending from outsiders--and their spouses.

I guess it won't be long 'til they're sneaking up to the back door, talking in code, passing wads of unmarked bills in exchange for Gucci and Louis and Chanel. All the while looking over their shoulders to make sure nobody sees them.
We should pity the poor addicts.
Better yet, arrest them.

How ironic because, at the end of the day, these people want people to notice how much $$$$ they have... must be a real pisser!

Didn't someone say

"....it would be easier for a rich man / woman to pass through the eye of the needle than to enter the gates of heaven...."

That would be from the Bible!!!!!! I think the speaker was ........... Jesus. (Matthew 19:24)! That's what makes me laugh at these "Christian" republicans who steal from 95% of America to give to themselves and their wealthy friends!

The people can’t shop Wal-Mart.

“Let them shop Hermès.”

Now where did I leave my guillotine?

My heart really goes out to these people. Imagine, they are forced to go home with expensive useless objects in nondescript bags! Imagine the pain they must endure.

Thank goodness they aren't "seen" carrying these bags. Lucky their assistants are their to spare them the embarrassment!

Our family quit exchanging gifts years ago because none of us really need anything. Who REALLY needs another sweater or purse? It is so much more satisfying to remember with cash, our favorite waitress at the coffee shop, milkman, postal carrier and the guys that pick up our recycle and trash every week. Then there's always the homeless shelters, soup kitchens, churches who stay open so people on the street have a warm safe place to sleep and get a bite to eat. There are so many ways to share what little good fortune we have with others who are working harder for less and sometimes get no acknowledgment or appreciation for a job well done day in and day out. I sort of pity this 'rich' woman who needs things to try and fill her life with meaning.

I like nice things too - but $1200. for a purse?! Just think of all the meals you could provide for people with that. I guess I'm just getting older (50) but nothing makes me feel better than lending a hand to someone with less than I do. It gives me a sense of value and worth, and occaisionally brings me a new friend.

It you think a $1200 purse is bad, you should see the the ones that cost over $10,000. Absolutely disgusting!

what would our economy do without the rich buying things at walmart, target, office max, home depot, lowes, sears, meijers, shop rite, A&P, Kmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohls, baby gap, toys r us, etc.

oh, my bad, they never spend their money there, they only spend it at super luxury, low volume over priced crap shops that import small amounts of products that make a tiny addition to the general economy.

Andy Warhol (sp?) once famously said something like, "In the future, rich people will dress in blue-jeans so no one will be able to single them out". Or... like in Vonnegut's _Breakfast of Champions_, they will need to build their luxery condos in Machu Pichu and Bali to escape the fury of the hoi poli. There is no gated community too remote for Lady Justice. Feel that rumble under your feet? How long will the rich be able to arm the children of the poor to defend the rich? As long as the rich command the army, they will be okay.

If she shopped at Target she wouldn't have to hide her shopping.

If she shopped at Target, and spent $5k to $10k a week, they would have to schedule an extra truck load of merchandise.

At least there is a glimmering of understanding that the wealth they acquired was at the expense of the future and security of this country (or at least that they realize others view it that way).

In a related but much bigger news story, the Fed prints and gives to the banks 2 trillion dollars in secret.
