I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The school day starts with an hour of jumping jacks, exercising and dancing -- one morning to the beat of "Whoomp! (There It Is)" as the children bounce and sing along. Students also eat a breakfast of omelets, soy milk, organic cereal and turkey sausages.

"When students are healthy, they do their best work..." Sanders-Butler said. "We want to make sure we're providing foods that will not only nourish the body, but also brain foods."

It turns out the kids don't hate the healthy stuff.

"One of the most requested vegetables now is broccoli..." Sanders-Butler said. "Can you believe that? The kids love broccoli."

In the first six months of the sugar ban, disciplinary incidents went down 23 percent, counseling referrals decreased 30 percent, and in the first years of standardized test scores, reading scores improved 15 percent, she said. Browns Mill was named a national blue ribbon school and a Georgia school of excellence in 2005.

Its a shame that all that "health" food they are eating is still processed garbage. Refined flour bread; dead. processed turkey sausage; dead. Pasteurized milk; dead. Cereal; dead. Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead. Soy milk is particularly bad since it is both dead food AND a hormone disruptor.

Processed shelf-life food will not cure obesity and diabetes. That's like eating plastic. Eating plastic causes physical degeneration.

Humanity has forgotten the wisdom of real nutrition and good genetics handed down for thousands of years by our forefathers:

-high nutrient animal protein including organ meats, sometimes eaten raw.

- sprouted, fermented, or leavened grains, vegetables and fruits; to unlock enzyme inhibitors, improve digestion, improve nutrient absorption, and prolong shelf-life.

-high nutrient fats; raw milk, raw butter, REAL cod liver oil.

Google weston a price quick before it catches on and the evil corporate media starts brainwashing you against it like they do to Atkins.

This is my daughter's school. It's interesting that it's made Huffington Post...it's been a sugar free school since before my daughter started pre-k there.....she's in 2nd grade now.

I really love Dr. Saunders-Bulter, and her approach to kids health. My daughter loves going to school...every day she comes home and tells me what song they 'exercised' to. Also, just today, she was telling my Mom how much she loves broccoli...just the 'flower' part though and not the 'stick' part. LOL

Dr. Saunders-Bulter herself had a life changing experience to help get her to this point. She was overweight and ended up in ER with all types ot problems. She's very open about it when she discusses the reasons for BMS being a sugar-free school during PTA meetings. She even penned a healthy eating cookbook that she gives to all students/parents entering BMS for the first time.

Oh, and we were also just named a Georgia school of excellence for 2008.

I would MUCH rather feed myself or my child a little sugar than any of the chemical replacements out there, some of which has been associated with brain dysfunction. There is nothing wrong with moderate sugar, except for what the Monsanto's of the world have convinced people. And the most effective treatment for ADHD--in case you think part of that problem is related to sugar--is sleep...good, restful sleep. Chemical substitutes for sugar are unhealthy for adults, therefore, they absolutely should not be given to children.

Dear lmvd3: What links can you provide for more information on sucralose (Splenda) made from sugar? Center for Science in the Public Interest Nutrition Action Healthletter seems to say sucralose is safe, but avoid aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet) and Acesulfame Potassium (Acesulfame K), often used together with sucralose in products.

For some reason, with many schools unable to update books, organic food might not be fiscally viable.

It does sound nice, though.
