spellcheck gone bad?
It's a maverick spellchecker.
The spellchecker has gone rogue!
Spell check does offer abeam as a correction for obama, but for barack it suggested baroque or barracks
So the guy made a mistake, so what--a no story.
Exactly; another story about NOTHING! This is becoming the norm in mainstream media these days.
Peace and love...
It's not a "non-story" if they don't print a retraction and an apology. If they don't it is an insult and should be treated as such. "Burka Abeam" is not his name.
How would you like it if I called you jack@$$. It's not your name.. it's offensive and an insult.
What paper is that? No one's mentioned it (that I can find). I see ...dailynews.com on the upper left of the page. Is that NYDN? We need to know who to send our outraged emails to.

I totally agree...why wasn't the name of the paper revealed
maybe its just a photo-shopped picture and it never actually happened.
Los Angeles Daily News, if you follow the posts in the blog from which this article got the story.
Since when does someone who writes for a newspaper use "spell check" for the president's name, AND if they do, you still have to okay the alternate selection? I don't believe for a moment that it was a silly "typo."
Of course it wasn't. Do you know which newspaper this was?
Who is the copy editor who wrote this caption? Or, if the caption was provided by the photo agency, who is the one who wrote that in? And why did no editor catch this?
And it's not a "typo." That's quite a euphemism for an egregious mistake.
A type means one or two wrong letters, and those letters are usually next to each other on the keyboard. Not so in this case.
It´s as much a typo as the New York ballots listing Barack Osama. Not at all.
That is not a typo. They are up to something. Ths is a typo. Atypo is whne you lose or msplace a lettre or tow. To srcew up two whole words so that they have no smeblance to what you are trying to convye is something don on prupose. A burka relates to muslim womens fashion. Abeam? I don't know.
They can spell Blagojevich and not Barack Obama? Seems questionable to me.
my spell checker setting asked me if I want to change the spelling, it does not automatically make the change...the "haters" can keep on "hating". President Obama will be around for a while...I AM SO THANKFUL!!!
I usually just laugh when I see crap like this. Oh, and trying to make his middle name a "bad" word, not going to happen!!! I fully support our President, Barack Hussein Obama.
Looks like whoever's in charge of captioning photos (which, I believe, is rarely the writer of the article itself) forgot to update their spell checker.
Whatever the case, I just become more firmly convinced every day that the "mainstream" media can no longer be trusted to provide me with the information I need to make rational decisions in my life.
This is why I no longer subscribe to news papers or watch network and/or cable news shows with any regularity other than for fluff stuff. I prefer to use the Internet to get as close as I possibly can to pure raw data and not let some editorial sellout shove his/her personal opinions down my throat..
Exactly.
.....and they wonder why the print media is failing, and going bankrupt.....
They are hiring dim wits- firing the smart ones-- this economy will lead to a further dumbing down---
I bet if folks stop buying that newspaper and cancel subscription....they will get the message
true this
This could also be an example of the state of the VOICE-TO-TEXT technology. If the software can't translate your speech it finds the closet word in its dictionary. Apparently Barak and Obama are not in the online dictionary yet.
They had no problem spelling BLAGOJEVICH so why did they have a problem spelling Barack Obama?
Blagojevich is a harder to spell, and with a 2 year campaign with Obama's name in the media on a daily basis, it is hard to believe that the name Barack Obama is unrecognizable or now difficult to spell.
Burke was a drop down option I got from Firefox before adding it, I still get Obadiah for Obama - kinda prophetic/biblical?
