Ah, journalism. Where would we be without you? And the papers wonder why they're folding...

Is the media unable to find pictures of Blago that don't have PEO in them? It's blatant guilt by association and someone needs to call them on it.

This is not a "typo"...this is an amazing display of ignorance and racism.

Spell check doesn't catch "pubic relations director" in place of "public relations director!" BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

How did the writer, the editor, and the publisher miss this?

It's the economy's fault. An experienced (with knowledge and capable of spelling) was fired to save money. A college intern was hired to do captioning. As they say in higher education: "colage don't equl smirt"

Is it an AP piece??? If so, enough said. Good ole Ron Fournier the neocon will continue with these "typos", not to mentoin the "is Barack black?" stories for many years to come.

It becomes sadly obvious that those who complain about spell checker doesn't recognize Barack Obama...doesn't anyone know how to add new words? I do not want to hear one peep out of anyone who says they know how to spell or edit, but from the number of errors that we see on blogs and crawl lines and print media is part of a bigger issue...many Americans can't spell or know how to use a computer for much more than Internet use. What we need is better education and training...and the patience to read what we write....and ohmygod...use a dictionary!

And while you criticize all those Americans who can't spell maybe you should check into your own atrocious grammar and punctuation.

Just sayin'.

I certainly know how,, but haven't added Obama's name.
But then again, my spell checker seems to recognize it just fine...

Having worked in print journalism for more years than I care to count (as a writer, editor, art director and page designer...), my guess is that the person writing the caption was an Obama-hater and wrote it as a "joke," the page designer flowed it in without reading it, and it simply wasn't noticed in the final read. Happens all the time, and people often get fired when the "joke" is egregious enough.

OH! Either that or the page designer was the Obama-hater, and typed in the caption. That also happens a lot... editorial writes and sends the captions separately, but the designer types them in to save time. Editorial will often not bother to re-read the captions (they can become almost an afterthought, and most caption typos that appear in print happen this way), assuming they'll run as written. Designer assumes joke will be caught on final read. Result=not good.

The LA Daily News endorsed Obama for President. Think it's a bizzare spell-check "correction".
