New York Times:

WASHINGTON -- The White House has prepared more than a dozen contingency plans to help guide President-elect Barack Obama if an international crisis erupts in the opening days of his administration, part of an elaborate operation devised to smooth the first transition of power since Sept. 11, 2001.

The memorandums envision a variety of volatile possibilities, like a North Korean nuclear explosion, a cyberattack on American computer systems, a terrorist strike on United States facilities overseas or a fresh outbreak of instability in the Middle East, according to people briefed on them. Each then outlines options for Mr. Obama to consider.

I guess HuffPo wasn't getting enough page views for their main article, so they made the headline even more inflammatory. Hello? Can anyone say yellow journalism?

Huffpo, you know I love you, but this headline is ludicrous. Do we really need any more fearmongering? I almost had a heart attack when I first saw it. It's downright irresponsible.

From the article:

And there are things that cannot be put in a briefing or memorandum. James Jay Carafano, a national security expert at the Heritage Foundation, said much of the apparatus of government would know what to do in the event of a crisis. The real test for Mr. Obama will be projecting leadership.

“For a president thinking about crisis management,” Mr. Carafano said, “the most important thing is not decision making, it’s public relations.
--------------

Heritage Foundation is, of course, the NeoCon home and "public relations" is, of course, an euphemism for pr0pag@nda.

What Carafano is saying is that in case there is a crisis, Obama should do what Bush did after 9_11, scare the sh*t out of the population with color coded thre@t levels and talk of duct tape. From that point on, he would be able to dictate to the Congress whatever he wants, tax cuts for his buddies, favors to corporations, and other important functions of the government.

Bush: One day lad, all this will be yours.

Obama: What the White House?

Bush: No not the White House, treasure beyond your wildest dreams, conquered lands, kings and queens bending to your every command...

Obama: But I don't want any of that...

Have you guys lost your mind? Get that headline off! There is no way to tell that its a "what if" story line. That's a pretty low way to get people to read a story. How about an honest headline.

Allow me to take over with a better headline.

w still pretends 9/11, anthrax attacks, Katrina or the economic disasters never happened on his watch.

Sorry, Goatlife.

That has nothing to do with the story.

Possible Bush briefing to Obama--Okay Barack, this is how I see it. They'll try to get cha, insult you and protest your inauguration. Just ignore it and make sure the media is intimidated so the masses will not know. You can do whatever you want, as long as the VP is cool with it. Man, there sure is a lot of money to be made and you can do whatever you want. If it is against the law, just rewrite it. If somebody disagrees with you, just fire them. Surround yourself with lying.yes people. Sure, people might hate you, but who cares? Not me. Any questions? National security? Um, go ask Dana as Condie is busy playing piano for the queen.

The headline states what many people outside the USA associate with America: Death, Destruction, Recession. Bush was fond of being a "war president". I hope Obama will not get the label "recession president". He should cut the military spending and go ahead with the plan to fix the infrastructure. It is ridiculous how much money you waste on your defense budget and still don't get anywhere. A super-power with the most sophisticated weapons system and at home people standing in line for soup and children going to bed hungry.

What's with the GIANT RED FONT?

The headline is horribly deceptive. Keep it up, and not even progressives will consider you credible.

Progressives never did consider this site credible
This site is for centrists. I very rarely see any kind of left of center opinions or stories highlighted here
