Cruise

Tom Cruise appears on Tuesday night's "The Late Show" with David Letterman and reads a Top 10 list about himself, an early clip of which is online.

Cruise, in a vest and undone white shirt, tells Letterman reading a Top 10 list is on his "bucket list" and then goes through, with overstated amusement, the Top 10 "Craziest Things People Say About Tom Cruise On The Internet."

Some were funnier than others, and with a few hitting closer to home, like this soft dig at Scientology:

#4: I believe all emotional and psychological disorders can be cured with Vicks Vaporub.

Obviously he doesn't improvise very well.

Honestly; anyone who actually belives in Scientology - unlike any other religion that has been around for more than 2 weeks, should be given Vaporub enemas till they quit believing.

Yeah, Tom doesn't believe in Vick's Vaporub, it has medicinal value after all.

Dave went incredibly easy on him because he doesn't enjoy being sued repetedly.

That was funny! It's good he can make sport of himself!

BTW: Tom: Achiever, Dave Devil Advocate! Oh what fun!

Just checked out the Jim Carrey top ten. That tells you all you need to know about the lame Cruise list. Dave knows Cruise can't take a (real) joke and laid low on the sting-o-meter.

Yeah, a real genuine guy, that Tom.

Although he's, by his standards, been on his best behaviour on this promo tour. I still get the feeling that he thinks that he's the only one in on the joke.

I wonder why Tom has such a big beef against and attraction to psychology? Notice that one of his jokes wasn't: Tom is bipolar. Not that that is anything to joke about. I hope he stays healthy, however he does it, but his views on human health, psychology, diseases of the brain, are so far off mainstream, he might be ignoring reality. He seems like an ok guy. Scientology? Harmful to people? Helpful to people? Maybe both-like most religions. But dispensing medical advice-that is harmful, and he can be sued if they take his advice and something happens. If he convinced say, a child who has diabetes that they don't need to poke fingers anymore or get shots, and the kid went into a coma and died-he is going to be held accountable.

No, it is not "both" like most religions because it is not a religion. Scientology is a cult. Scientology has no redeeming qualities, it is all mind-control, all profiteering, all manipulation, extortion, power-tripping etc. etc. etc. and no benefit.

Imagine a place where you go to give all your money in exchange for psychological harm and slow, methodical brainwashing. Now imagine that this place is part of an organization that receives not only regular tax exemption, but special tax exemption given to no other religion in the US, in direct violation of the establishment clause. This is a basic picture of what Scientology is. Don't give it the benefit of the doubt because of political correctness, Scientology is a cancer.

The book Tom had Amazon ban for a few weeks until the public barraged them:

The Complex: An Insider Exposes the Covert World of the Church of Scientology ...

Tom, nor any Scienologist is not allowed to read this one.

I am glad he's decided to keep his religious philosophy private. They have been known to try and handle your finances so much so the the degree that you can become the highest on the chart for their total freedom by devulging all of your financial information, and then they still can't follow through with their mission without stripping you of everything you are worth. Making you think you could just make more tomorrow.

It seems that with each show, Letterman's Top 10 gets worse. The only thing that would have been funnier than Cruise reading the list? Anything. Literally anything on Earth.

Tom is okay....

People commenting about his being "weird" or "creepy" just don't cut it with me.....
He jumped on a couch because he was happy in love (wonderful!) and suggested a colleague doesn't medicate herself (& she forgave him). So, what's the big deal?
He laughs a lot.....okay, I'll take that over folks who scowl a lot.
I've had family and friends do M-U-C-H worse things than Cruise and don't find them at all creepy.
As for his religion, that's his business.
Let the man entertain and stop being some over judgmental.

You are so ignorant about Scientology. Read up and see how harmful this scam is before you spout off.

Tom is a nice guy, but he looks like he's lost too much weight. He almost looks gauntly.

No he looks good. Look at most men Tom's age. They don't look half as good. Tom is not a big guy. He's small.

Small? Compared to what or whom? He's not small. He's bigger than I am, and I stood up next to him. No heels. He is taller than me by a hand.

Most ironic to me was the fact that during this latest effort to hump the bad taste left by his missteps from our mouthes, Cruise could not make out the word "Heimliched." Maybe he should stay away from all H-surnames: Hitler, Hubbard, Heimlich...

He is dyslexic. I do not care for him in the least, but reading out loud to a class or group of people is frightening to me and I do not have the disorder.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:51 PM on 12/17/2008

BUT Tom is OT8 ... you don't get any higher in Scientology.

If he is STILL affected by dyslexia, what the hell is going on? That should have been handled a LONG time ago.

Becoming Clear should have nailed that relatively lightweight malady.

The Top Ten ... not a decent joke in there and far too PC. Anyone recall when the Top Ten was funny?

At least his handlers have him acting much more sedate for this new movie.

I am no fan of Tom Cruise, in fact I don't think he can act at all, and I am not a scientologist. However, when you think about it scientology in no more implausible than Christianity now is it?

I'd say yes except for a few differences
- The creator was alive during 'our' lifetime so the lack of separation of time leads to a lot of skeptics. - We have the internet which carries loads of L. Ron's most famous quotes such as, "I'd like to start a religion, that's where the money is."
- The man was a science fiction author which in and off itself does not mean he was not wise but it may help to explain the origins of Xenu.
- L. Ron is about as disreputable as they came. He's lied about many things most of which being the many degrees he claims to have yet their is absaolute;y no paperwork to back these up.
- He was a capitalist and mostly concerned with making money. This should eliminate Scientology from the realm of a religion because the root of most other religions is to help the poor and the sick, not to make loads of money.

There are probably more.
