Blagojevich Quotes Elvis, Says He'll Talk 'Soon' (VIDEO)

Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Wednesday that he "can't wait" to tell his side of the story and expects to do so no later than Thursday.

"I can't wait to begin to tell my side of the story and to address you guys and, most importantly, the people of Illinois. That's who I'm dying to talk to," he said as he left his home Wednesday morning for a jog.

"There's a time and place for everything. That day will soon be here and you might know more about that today, maybe no later than tomorrow."

Asked about when he will talk about the case, Blagojevich, an Elvis acolyte, made his first public King reference since his arrest on federal corruption charges:

"To quote Elvis, 'hang loose.' Now can I get a run in, do you think?"

Is it likely Blogojevich can be impeached? .

Under the Illinois Constitution, the House of Representatives conducts investigations to determine the existence of cause for impeachment . Impeachments are tried by the Senate. No person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of the Senators elected.

What does this come down to? There is no definition of an impeachable offense. Not even a hint. The Illinois House decides, on a case by case basis, what justifies impeachment, and then tries to get the Senate to agree with them. Nothing in this Constitution seems to prevent the House from impeaching someone because he has B.O. This Constitution must have been written by some ad copy writer.

I have not read the whole Constitution, and there may be something in there that helps narrow the matter, but I don't think so. There may be some judicial precedent which narrows it, but I doubt it. There may be some application of the standards of the U.S. Constitution, but I doubt that even more.

Under the U.S. Constitution, I would have to say that until there is actual evidence that Blogojevich did something besides yakking about what he wanted to do, there could be no impeachment. And so far I've heard no such evidence. But under this Constitution, the political wave will determine what happens to him. His haircut could be enough to get him removed.

What a perfect opportunity to corrupt Illinois legislators. This Constitution is an invitation to fraud.

Conspiracy to solicit bribes IS a crime in itself, as Blago's lawyer very well knows. The old "Hey, we were just ASKING for bribes, nobody actually GAVE us any" defense is not going to work, it's still a crime to ask for bribes or plan to ask for bribes, just like it would be to plan any other crime. The only reason he's not being impeached right now is that the Illinois legislature was asked by the investigator not to interfere with the witnesses before the federal case goes to trial.

I think it will come down to the Attorney General invoking the other Illinois law that lets the State Judiciary remove the governor for crimes. That one seems to be even vaguer but may be easier to do because the witnesses could talk to the panel of judges confidentially and not screw up the federal case.

How shameful that he won't resign. He seriously doesn't think he did anything wrong, since he didn't actually get that sweet, sweet money.

Once you cross the line between simple quid pro quo to a request for something of personal gain that is defined as a crime. And this Blago most definitely did--in several instances.

But it hardly matters. The General Assembly had often discussed impeaching him on prior offenses that had nothing to do with Fitzgerald's complaint. It would be easy enough to impeach him on those complaints.

He's dead meat no matter how you look at it. His history is miserable and littered with malfeasance,.

I think that Blagojevich should appoint himself as senator 'cause they're gonna impeach him anyway.
If the U.S. Senate then tries to block his entry or impeach him, he should threaten to expose all the other 99 U.S. senators "pay to play" habits. Blagojevich's only crime is that he says what he wants explicitly; others do it with forked tongue.
