LAS VEGAS SNOW: Strip Covered In Snow

Tourists and residents of Las Vegas alike received quite a shock as a snowstorm blanketed sin city's most famous monuments. It also caused some travel headaches:

The ongoing snowstorm has stopped flights from landing or leaving at McCarran International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

"No planes are departing for Las Vegas from anywhere in the U.S. right now," said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

Gregor said the airport doesn't have snow removal or deicing equipment, which means there's no way for snow-covered planes to leave safely.

"The forecast is not looking particularly promising for anybody who wants to fly into Las Vegas," he said.

Stop calling it "global warming". Call it "climate change." "Global warming" refers to the increase of the Earth's average surface temperature, due to a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. "Climate change" is a broader term that refers to long-term changes in climate, including average temperature and precipitation.

Given that the denizens of Las Vegas consider 60 degrees to be Arctic, this is definitely a sign that the climate is screwed up. On the plus side, this should help alleviate the drought they've been experiencing for nearly a decade.

Representatives of numerous Las Vegas casinos arrived in Washington today in order to lobby Congress for a massive bailout of the casino industry due to abnormal weather conditions in the West.

Citing the inability of airlines to cope with the recent snow and ice, severely curtailing tourist acitivity, the casino industry has suffered financial losses that it cannot endure without federal assistance.
Bob "One Arm" Bandetta, spokeman for the group, said, "First we experienced the impact of the declining economy, and now the weather has dealt a losing hand to our industry. It is imperative that the government provide funds to help us through this troubled period."

Similar requests for federal aid are expected to be received from other affected enterprises in the region, including tanning salons, exotic dancing studios and wedding parlors.

There is no weather, climate or ecological event that isn't attributed to climate change.
I asked a friend of mine what changes would demonstrate that global warming might be suspect... the answer? All weather events, regardless of their nature, are a result of man-made global warming.

We shouldn't be too hard on the global warming believers. They are like the people who thought they were really going to receive $60,000 from a banker in Nigeria.

Really? Tell that to the arctic ice sheets melting now that have been frozen for thousands of years. Tell that to the coral reefs of the world, 20% of which have died off. Better yet, tell that to people who live on freshwater streams that are drying out now that the mountain glaciers that feed them in cycles of building up and thawing are running out. A snowstorm in Las Vegas is nothing -- just wait until the Colorado River is gone.

The whole "OMG! It's snowing! Take that, global warming!" argument is really getting tiresome. Read a book or take a science class, or something.

And unusually wet weather is a sign of global warming. As are unusually dry, windy, misty, brisk, scorching, clear, cloudy, and pleasant days. Tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, post-nasal drip, and Al Gore's ever-increasing waist-size and bank account are all a direct result of global warming.

Major winter snow and ice storm in the midwest today. Chicago area - 9-12 inches this afternoon and overnight. A full 3/4" of ice "likely" in the lower two thirds of the state. Three quarters of an inch of ice - "likely."
