The Mexican government reports that almost 14% of the country's city, state and federal police officers never received a high school diploma, while 4% never made it through grade school.

Assistant Education Secretary Miguel Szekely released the figures Wednesday while announcing a plan to help the officers earn degrees for knowledge they have gained on the job or in home study.

The government recently reported that almost half of the country's 375,000 police officers failed a battery of security, psychological and background tests.

Mexican police forces have been hit by the worst corruption scandal in a decade in recent months, after high-ranking police and prosecution officials were detained for allegedly aiding traffickers.

Armed to-the-teeth, prone to corruptness, UNtrustworthy, and now it's documented that most have education levels LESS than Jethro D. Bodeen (Beverly Hillbillys/ "I graduated the 6th grade!").
WHY do gringos continue to vacation there?
I live approx 2.5 hours of the Sonoran Border & personally I would NEVER travel in that $%!&hole of a country.
NO WONDER THEY SEND ALL THEIR UNEDUCATED/ UNTRAINED RANCHEROS NORTH TO DEGRADE OUR COUNTRY

God bless you, for not resorting to stereotypes and trying to understand the situation. More people should be like you. Corruption is a symptom, and is often associated in places where there is much poverty, but it's not the cause. I think like most countries with poverty, it's deep rooted and exacerbated by neocolonialism.
