McClatchy:

A new state commission says the Alaska governor ought to get a $25,000 a year raise.

Asked to figure out how much Alaska should pay its top officials, the group recommends pay hikes for the lieutenant governor, department heads and legislators too.

"We need the best people we can get to do some pretty tough jobs against some often incredibility well-financed, single-minded corporate and individual interests," said Rick Halford, a former legislator and chairman of the new State Officers Compensation Commission.

Let's see...They want to give a governor a pay raise although she seldom goes to Juneau to do her job and charges per diem to the government for living at home - giving herself an unofficial pay raise already. Alaskans, please wake up.

She has said, she did not ask for or will accept a raise.
Please wake up

Gov. Sarah Palin didn't ask for a pay raise and won't accept one during her current term, a spokesman said Wednesday

After all, Palin has become accustomed to living way beyond her means, so she deserves a raise of that magnitude? Where is the giving back to the people, her "country", as her platform was raring to support?
Just amazing.

What's with the assumption that the "best" people can only be wooed with bigger paychecks? George Washington initially wanted to turn down a salary as president (the other Founding Fathers convinced him otherwise to avoid setting a precedent that limits the presidency to the independently wealthy). While we obviously do not want our leaders to worry whether they can afford to work for the government, there's a difference between allowing them to live comfortably and luring them with attractive paychecks.

yeah, give her the money; a one time gift of $25,000 so she can go get educated. It amazes me how americans celebrate her stupidity

Yeah, right.

Please continue your effort to secede.

Let me get this straight. She appoints a commission and these people decide she deserves a raise? A $ 25,000 raise? This is laughable. Why don't the people of Alaska (and I am sure some do) see through what is going on up there. Is this the same commission that ruled her innocent of troopergate as well? I think Palin is crooked-the more I read, the more I believe it. All the family values and betcha comments are BS.

So, the commission appointed by Palin believes they need to spend more to get the best people?

Why don't they just stop electing m0r0ns?

It's a lot cheaper.

I thought she was making $7 Million on a book deal? And she needs another $25,000.

I'm sure she feels the increase should be $50,000.
I used to work for a woman that could be her clone.
The hubris, greed and self-delusion have no bounds.

In the midst of a deep recession, hike up their salaries. That'll make the voters happy.

the crazy thing for europeans like me to read in all these comments here is that you totally disagree with all your politicians and do nothing about it.

First they can't afford to hire a lawyer or attorney, so only the rich can buy themselves "justice". Lawsuits seem to ruin people here.
Then remember former East Germany. These 17 Million people just got used to their dict@torship after a while. Americans who were kids in 2000 know nothing else but what they experienced in the last eight years. They might get old as loyal BushiEs.

East Germans never got used to their dictatorship! Thats why they held massive protests against their government in 1989.

Why the hell is this pending approval? I've read things that make me cringe here. Yet, somehow they make it through. For some reason, if I make a comment that might be considered even moderately controversial, it's blocked. What gives?

Your post will probably get pulled just for asking but, if it makes you feel better- it happens to me all the time too. And sometimes it is so slow to get approved that so many others have posted that mine is never really seen several pages back... So, it really makes posting a waste of time.

Pay CUT - or better yet IMPEACHED - would be more appropriate.
