LOS ANGELES — "The Hills" personalities Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag recently went to a Beverly Hills courthouse to get married, but questions remained Wednesday about whether the service actually happened.

Pratt also teased doubters without definitively proving the couple's nuptials, telling Ryan Seacrest on Seacrest's morning radio show that he and Montag took steps to keep their marriage license confidential.

A Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman said Tuesday that MTV was granted permission to film inside a courtroom for a wedding scene, but the taping occurred after-hours and without a judge's participation.

MTV released a statement Wednesday that said Pratt and Montag were filmed at the courthouse, but stopped short of saying whether the ceremony was completed.

"MTV crews captured Heidi and Spencer at the Beverly Hills Courthouse with the deputy commissioner who handles all civil unions," the statement read.

Court spokesman Alan Parachini said he was told by a staffer that the service was interrupted when Montag became upset and ran from the courtroom. He did not know if she returned to complete the ceremony.

A deputy commissioner is not a judicial officer but is a person designated by the county recorder's office to perform civil ceremonies. The recorder's office said it had no public record that Pratt and Montag were married, or that a deputy commissioner available after-hours was requested.

The courthouse scene became necessary after Pratt, 25, and Montag, 22, acknowledged that their Nov. 19 marriage ceremony near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was symbolic. The couple had appeared on the Nov. 26 cover of Us Weekly with the headline "Heidi & Spencer Elope!" but they didn't take the proper steps to have a legally binding service in Mexico.

Monday's episode of "The Hills" depicted the pair spontaneously agreeing to exchange vows after downing several shots of tequila.

Moments later, a tease for the fourth season finale of MTV's "The Hills" show Pratt and Montag walking into a courtroom with Pratt's sister, Stephanie Pratt. A man who appeared to be a judge smiled down on them from the bench.

"I, Heidi, take thee, Spencer," Montag coos in the preview.

MTV said the ceremony was filmed after-hours to avoid disruptions to other couples getting married that day.

But the scene portrayed is a departure from the typical wedding at the courthouse, which includes a wedding chapel.

The season-finale preview features a wood-paneled courtroom with the California state seal on the wall behind a smiling, robe-clad judge. If a judge does preside, it is typically in chambers during a break, Parachini said.

He said it was impossible for his office to verify whether the ceremony was completed. "We're not in the marriage business," Parachini said.

Pratt or Montag can get married in any county in California, as well as opt for a confidential license, which exempts it from public-record searches _ and is how Pratt taunted doubters Wednesday.

Appearing on Seacrest's broadcast on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, Pratt said his claims couldn't be proved wrong.

"We checked the confidentiality box, so good luck, people," Pratt told Seacrest, according to a recap on the station's Web site.

I really hate Reality Shows and those who participate in them. The woman are shall I say being used worst than those who actually have talent (used loosely). Most are caught up in the Entertainment light and are..........run through, Fellas now what i mean.

It's always fun watching how sacred people treat the sanctity of marriage.

HAHAHAHA, yeah, the gays have a lot to answer for... destroying the sacred institution of marriage, while straight people honor it so completely. I wonder if the supporters of Prop 8 would equally support banning drunken Vegas wedding, shotgun weddings, marriage for money and marriages of convenience. Of course not. Everything's OK to those bigots as long as it happens between heterosexuals.

Don't forget Drive-Thru weddings.

PS: If you're too lazy or too much in a hurry to get out of your car to get married, it probably won't last.

and since they're both from CA, I'd bet that they both voted yes on Prop 8.

How nice of them.

A near certainty since they were both very public (and, sadly, the most famous) McCain/Palin supporters. Kind of ironic considering how fond Spencer is of his, as Joel McHale would say, flesh colored beard. Both flesh colored beards, I should say.

That anyone in America would stoop to watching the Sarah Palin supporting Spencer and Heidi, I find both sad and nauseating. I mean, go read a book.

A not very good attempt at giving Spence a beard.

Reality TV soooo sucks.

MTV Should change it's name to "The Ruin Your Children Network" and Bravo should change it's name to "The Worlds Most Useless People Network"

Piquet, the blame should not be on the women, but on the men. Its the male managers, record execs, movie execs, tv execs, etc that make these choices to put these gals out there for male consumption, not women. Because the male perspective rules in our culture, its for the pleasure of men, not women. Women are the tools for the male's enjoyment, and are exploited thusly. And the reason women watch these shows is because they are so brainwashed to be obsessed about looks, size, hair color, makeup experts, and now strippers, they have no energy left to be critical thinkers about what they're seeing in the media or trying to be better HUMAN BEINGS, but just about how they can be the prettiest, sexiest, bitchiest, etc.

Because women are weak willed creatures, helpless in the face of a man waving money in their faces, right?

No, because from childhood they're raised to believe the only power they hold is in their ability for procreation, which is to be kept untapped until they are transferred from the possession of their parents to that of their husband. The pressure on parents to keep their daughters virginal makes girls in effect limit their ability to see beyond the surface.

You'd think this is an extremely traditional mindset, but its still going on today. My poor sisters are prime examples.

Everything these two do is either staged or fake. It's no wonder why reality TV makes me want to dig my eyes out.

I sincerely doubt these two would opt for the "confidential license," but it's nice the option was mentioned.

uhm... you're surprised it was faked? Really? Seriously? Can't you tell by the editing that every conversation is shot with several "takes" otherwise you'd see a camera in the shot every time they switch angles to show them from the other side of their face.

The facts that any print space or air time is spent on Spencer and Heidi news must surely be one of the signs of the Apocalypse. They have NEVER done anything news worthy , accomplished anything worth watching or even demonstrated that they are decent people. Fame derived through zero worth .....sad.
