Will Smith

Will Smith gives generously to many causes, and one of them is the Church of Scientology. A Fox News report on his charitable foundation's tax return shows that $122,500 was donated to Scientology causes, out of $1.3 million given overall.

He also gave a combined $122,500 to the Church of Scientology, broken into these donations: $67,500 to the New York Rescue Workers Detoxication Fund, $50,000 to the group's Celebrity Center in Hollywood and $5,000 to ABLE, another Scientology offshoot. Smith and his wife have also supported a private school called New Village Academy they opened this fall in suburban Los Angeles that uses Scientology learning concepts.

Smith has talked about his study of Scientology and also said he is not a Scientologist.

There are so many worthy causes out there that Smith can contribute to and this is where his money is going? It does say a lot about the person. Jolie and Pitt were actors whose films I would not make an effort to go see, but after I found out all the good causes they contribute to, it totally changed my opinion of them. I think they are great people and will support all of their movies because I know they will donate to a worthy causes and I really admire them for that.

Yet MORE money to Scientology from this "non"scientologist.

Hmmm, is this tax deductible?

Well, there goes another entire list of movies that I will quite happily never, ever pay to watch again.

Well, it helps to know whose films to boycott....
Scientologists who are stars do not get my box office bucks.

Fact is that religions are all over commerce and business. The Mormon church has
vast financial holdings and you probably can't leave the house without a buck or two
going into their pocket or some other church's...

Frankly, religion is the major source of misery in this world and the True Believers out
their have the blood of millions on their hands.... No thanks for me, I want no part of
their nonsensical bloody "salvation".

YOU NEED JESUS LUNGFISH,

BELIEVE IN SOMETHING BESIDES DOUBT.....

AND WILL GIVES TO SCIENTOLOGY BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE LEARNING CONCEPTS... I AGREE WITH WILL

AND I'M CATHOLIC.... HAVE YOU SEEN THE SCHOOL RATINGS OF THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS USING THEIR CURRICULUM? THEY ARE OFF THE CHARTS (NO PUN INTENDED)

And don't forget about those awesome Nazis and the great work they did on anatomy and psychology. You have to admit that they furthered scientific knowledge!

If you are interested in the teachings of Scientology without the price tag, check out the Free Zone. They are an offshoot of Scientology that has the same religious beliefs but doesn't force people to split from their loved ones if their loved ones don't share their beliefs.

I have no problem with people believing what they want to believe. If you want to believe that the Earth was invaded 75 million years ago by Lord Xenu and that he then blew up those slaves with atomic bombs, recaptured their souls (thetans), exposed them to religious nonsense to confuse them, and then left them to inhabit the bodies of early humans and thereby cause all those humans' problems? That's fine with me. I have no problem with that.

But if you want to tear people away from their families, force children into child labor (ostensibly, "volunteerism"), keep those children out of school, and put them at terrible risk of sexual and physical abuse, Then we have a problem.

Scientology isn't a cult because they believe in aliens and make Tom Cruise look like even more of a weirdo. It's because it draws people in and then abuses them and steals their life savings.

Want the REAL facts on Scientology? Check out Xenu.net and XenuTV. Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.

Keep your Jesus to yourself, berryessence.....
I don't need your proselytizing, your finger wagging and your self-righteousness, your judgment.
Your church has the blood of the innocents on its hands and you are part of it. No escaping it, no denying it. You are part of a legacy of murder, extortion, coersion, theft and domination. Look to your own soul, berryessence. I'll take care of mine, thank you very much.

Will Smith has a right to donate HIS money where he sees fit. No one is forced to support his films.

I, like many others believe Scientology is a cult religion with a whole lot of weird ideas. But then so is a religion that believes in original sin, virgin birth and resurrection.

It's all a bunch of hooey!

"But then so is a religion that believes in original sin, virgin birth and resurrection. "

Count it! People can believe whatever they want. So, I believe scripture is all a bunch of hooey.

While it is a trivial amount the problem is it's going to support a bunch of really nasty scumbags with rancid ideas about torturing people to make them behave. Scientology really is an american religion.

Maybe they have something on him? Just a thought.

I think that's how they work...intimidation...ok, blackmail if you will.

They are indeed a cult, but a dasterdly cult....so I wouldn't put anything past them.

I saw a show on Scientology where this 20-something young lady left the cult after being raised in it. She said that she just started feeling that it wasn't right. When she left, all of her family shut her out of their lives. They have nothing whatsoever to do with her and haven't spoken to their only other daughter in 2 yrs. If that's not cult behavior, I don't know what is. That's pretty creepy.

Come on Will.

MY MOTHER GOT PREGNANT OUT OF WEDLOCK.....

SHE WAS RAISE CATHOLIC........ THE CHURCH DIDN'T CONDONE AND NEITHER DID THE FAMILY....

MY MOTHER GOT MARRIED... MY DADDY WENT TO WAR (VIETNAM)

WHEN HE CAME BACK

MY MOTHER DIVORCE HIM 2 YEARS LATER

NOW SHE MET ANOTHER MAN OVER 35 YEARS AGO

SHE WON'T MARRY HIM BECAUSE SHE FEELS HER VOWS ARE BROKEN TO THE CHURCH

IS THAT CULT BEHAVIOR? I BELIEVE THAT'S A PERSON BELIEVING IN THEIR VALUES WHETHER RIGHT OR WRONG OF YOUR OWN CONVICTION...

STOP HATING AND JUDGING... ONLY GOD SHOULD JUDGE

The Catholic Church AND the Church of Scientology both use guilt and confession to emotionally blackmail their membership. The Vatican just has a lot more practice -- they don't have to lift a finger, their members hamstring themselves now.

Yes, that's cult behavior. Your mother has sadly allowed herself to be programmed with the idea that her own happiness and health during her short life on Earth means nothing compared to a promise she made years ago to obey a disturbing manual of scare-stories, superstitious fables, and exhortation to genocide. Why do you ennoble hate, shame, fear, and guilt with the label "values"?

Actions speak very loudly. He is a talented actor and so fun to watch but make no mistake, talent is not intelligence. This group is about many things, none of them good. If it looks like a cult......

Will Smith got off cheaply. From what I understand, becoming a high-level scientologist like Tom Cruise costs upwards of $400,000. I had a friend who went to a scientology talk in college and got harrassed afterwards. I thought it seemed like a cult then, and still do. Some of the concepts are fine, but the church is creepy.

There is something wrong with this organization. Are these all the things he donates to? I was thinking there would be some more deserving contributions for more money. But, NO. Icky.
