Will Smith

Will Smith gives generously to many causes, and one of them is the Church of Scientology. A Fox News report on his charitable foundation's tax return shows that $122,500 was donated to Scientology causes, out of $1.3 million given overall.

He also gave a combined $122,500 to the Church of Scientology, broken into these donations: $67,500 to the New York Rescue Workers Detoxication Fund, $50,000 to the group's Celebrity Center in Hollywood and $5,000 to ABLE, another Scientology offshoot. Smith and his wife have also supported a private school called New Village Academy they opened this fall in suburban Los Angeles that uses Scientology learning concepts.

Smith has talked about his study of Scientology and also said he is not a Scientologist.

I love Will Smith, but I am wondering why celebrities anounce their givings shortly before a new movie comes out. Or is it this about Will Smith being into Scientology? See church, see state. See church separate from state.

Hey, Project Chanology, where are you guys? Cruise is doing interviews, Smith is forking over six figures -- they're rallying. What are you doing about it? Never forgive, never forget, right? You set up the expectation, don't disappoint us.

Rome wasn't built in a day and Scientology won't go down overnight. If you want to help or learn more, go to whyweprotest.net for the latest info on what's happening cult and protest-wise.

Taking down L. Ron Hubbards brainwashing machine is going to be tough. Anon has accomplished a lot since the first 'declaration of war', but much more needs to be done. The COS still holds a great deal of financial wealth, political influence, has an army of lawyers and is invested in many properties of real estate and other hidden ventures like Narconon, Criminon, CCHR and all those other front groups. Anonymous has already bled them of many millions and many people have 'blown' from the cult since this whole thing started. The media is becoming much bolder in reporting Scientology (a year ago, they wouldn't have DARED) but now we hear about it on a fairly weekly basis. More people are coming out of hiding, reporting to the Feds and speaking out about their experiences as we speak. The demise of the COS IS coming. The fight is not over.

Patience, grasshopper.

If it talks like a Scientologist, walks like a Scientologist....it IS a Scientologist. Come on Will, are you that insecure?

It will stop Will, I promise, once this news gets out and you pull one couch jumping type stunt, its over....you and yours beard wife will be just like tom and his beard wife.

he doesn't need to jump on the couch. just knowing he's a "scientologist" makes me think he's an idiot and a nut.

I thought he was smarter than that. Too bad he fell for the con. I guess it's time to scratch him off my list.

i already have, I knew he was into it when he started hanging with tom cruise...and the final nail in the coffin was the special school he is funding so his kids and other scientology kids can go there without real religions interferring...

I am truly disappointed that Will & Jada Smith would let crazy Tom Cruise conveince them that the world of Scientology is the way!

I take it then that Tom Cruise has been teaching him how to jump up and down on couches. Geeez.

So disappointed. I mean in the bigger scheme it's his business and I will still watch his movies and my life doesn't change at all. But I'm disappointed. I've always liked Will. He's funny and seemed sharp with plenty of street smarts and the kind of sense of humor that would make him laugh at a cult like that. I would have expected a naughty Will grin when Isaac Hays took his chef hat and left South Park in defense of the Hubbardites.

But he's part of Scientology. There it is. But I did think he was smarter than that. Sigh.

Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman are my litmus test. If I find out either of them are frequenting the Celebrity Center I suppose I'll take to my sick bed. There won't be any point in going on.

Since when does the church of Scientology need money? They're a money making enterprise, created by a comic book writer who told his friend that the way to make money is to start your own religion.

Anyway, I expected just such a story after all the press of Will Smith hanging out with Tom Cruise.

yep....once you hang with cruise, you are tainted...look what they terrible cult did to nicole kidman...she isnt a scientologist anymore, but it has turned her adopted kids against her...She has even said they call her Nicole and they call katie holmes mom...how sad it that, so she had to have her own baby for a child who she can love unconditionally.

Hubbard didn't write comic books. He wrote science fiction short stories, a few pretty bad novels, and an actually not terrible horror novella.

Look up the guy's history. The road to Dianetics and Scientology begins in Pasadena, CA in the 1930s, in the home of a man named Jack Parsons. Google Parsons, find his biographies. The roots of the C.O.S. are stranger than anybody talks about in public. It's all pretty sad, really, even Hubbard, in the end.

That's great - he really is determined to make sure that he makes a difference in the things that he believes in. It's certainly a better investment than the bailouts given by the gov't through tax payer money.

It's a shame that Will Smith could not have taken an hour or two and Googled sites like
xenu.net and read some.

'Know before you go' is all. No excuse with the Internet available.

Guess Will flunked the Personality Test.

The Church of Scientology operates the Citizen's Commission for Human Rights, which campaigns against psychiatric abuse.

The CCHR present themselves as the champions of the mentally ill.

Yet they do no operate one single homeless shelter. They do not provides beds or meals or any kind of hands on care for the homeless mentally ill.

All they give the mentally ill is advice. They advise them to go off their meds and turn their backs on the people taking care of them.

I have yet to see a single homeless schizophrenic saying that any of this advice saved him or her from the streets.
