Plastic Surgery

The New York Times reports that plastic surgery is on the decline...especially in regions where it's most enjoyed.

"In Orange County, where plastic surgery is a part of their culture, doctors told me business is down 30 to 40 percent," said Thomas Seery, the president of realself.com, a site devoted to reviewing vanity-medicine procedures. "That tells me something is fundamentally changing there."

Even a few celebrities, those early adopters of appearance technology, have started to deride the plasticized look that sometimes accompanies cosmetic interventions, a harbinger perhaps of a new climate of restraint in which overt augmentation seems like bad taste.

Call it a Botox backlash. Last month in interviews with different magazines, the actresses Courteney Cox and Lisa Rinna said that they did not like the look of excessive facial injections.

Looks like a typical Rupert Murdoch newspaper, website or TV station. You must be tightly associated.

Well, if California ever fell into the Pacific, they'd be floating like an invasion of jellyfish.

GOOD LARD! (And it is not even a slow news day!)

Just curious, Hu.ffPo. Why don't you ever show an equivalent photo of the male endowment on your site? I'm certain it would be equally welcomed...

I had to have a bi-lateral mastectomy when I was 31. The FDA told us that the implants were
safe. At 31, I didn't want to spend the rest of my life flat-chested and my surgeon was telling me that all would be fine. I've had 11 surgeries on the left side and one on the rright. For 34 years I've suffered. (and they were small). The surgery site is so messed up that my pain is constant. Nothing to be done now. My pain ruined my marriage and has convinced me that no one else would want me now.
A woman who feels that she'll feel and look better by having two cantaloupes plastered on her
chest is very, very wrong. Most augmentations have to have a revision every few years. Every
surgery makes that site worse.
I worked for the surgeon who did my reconstruction and from the work experience, I can spot a pair of implants a 1/4 mile out. Can you imagine being 90 and having those things standing straight up when you lie down???

Maybe, tattoos. Why not? Someplace where the knowledgeable user can peruse them to make certain the products contain nothing that's hazardous to anyone's health., Maybe, some operating instructions, too. This type has to handle differently than the other.

Ugh....don't lump *this* male in with morons who like fake breasts. My friends and I don't always agree on what we find attractive in the opposite sex, but we all agree on one point: Fake breasts are so gross as to be deal killers for us.

I would love it if no ladies out there ever went under the knife for anything other than reconstruction from a mastectomy.

Otherwise, remember that what God gives you is beautiful! A warm smile and self-respect are much, much more attractive than a big fake rack!

Boo, freaking hoo.

The most rediculous thing a woman can do to herself. You can spot them 99% of the time and that speaks volumes about how she feels about herself.

If you want to tell the world that is all you have to offer, go right ahead.

I agree with you that women getting breast implants aren't very confident in themselves. But you must also admit that part of the responsibility lies with the north American male's insane obsession with large boobs... Trust me, it's not the same in Europe, Japan or other parts of the world, where smaller and more gentle features are very appreciated...

I just came back from the Toronto Sun site, after reading your post. In support of your assertion, 80% of the Sunshine girls of 2008 have them.

Oedipus complex anyone?

Does it not bother people that the people they are talking to, aren't the people that they're talking to?

i disagree.

people ar e responsible for their own actions.

saying i did it for a man or for any reason is just shifting blame.

suppose NO women had it done?

see?

its women competing against each other that fuels this.
