Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld tried out some new standup on "The Late Show" Friday night before sitting next to David Letterman and delivering a few more humorous rants from a seated position.

After his standup routine that had a large focus on cookies, the father-of-three sat down and told Letterman about kids birthday parties.

"I go to all of them. I hate every single one of them... Do you find other people's kids never look quite right?"

He especially hates pinatas and bouncy castles, on which his daughter apparently broke an arm, and he told Dave exactly why.

Wow, many are not very fond of him I guess. Must be his slightly misanthropic sense of humor, which I love, but it's not suppose to be taken too literally. I found it funny and typical of him.

Yeah, same here. His humor is not side-splittingingly hysterical, but I do find him funny.

Seinfeld is the type of comedian who dares speak the things others only think.

Jerry's trying to do slice of life comedy these days (probably always has). His problem is that he's just not all that likeable. He's a terrible actor, which was actually a plus for his series, as it added to the absurdity.

Bill Cosby, in his prime, was successfull in the same vein because he was someone you really felt a kinship to -- even when he performed his act while sitting in a chair the whole time.

Unless you have the audience eating out of your hands by your personality, stick to edgy comedy (a la Chris Rock and Bob Schimmel).

Seinfel's set had a couple of chuckles last night but didn't even compare to Letterman and Ferguson's monologues.

But he got lucky with his TV show, made a whole lot of money, and in this day and age, when you have money, many people think your a god, everything you say is funny, intelligent and all healing.
As long as he has millions in the bank, he will be considered a success by many. Ive never thought he was all that funny. Sometimes he is. And really, he didnt write, produce or direct his show, he was just an actor who had a show with his name on it that was the best thing on tv at that time. Which really wasnt saying much at the time. He is ok, but he is still just a mediocre stand up comic who makes his living bitching about things.

Anytime someone gets mega-popular, this stuff happens. The general public is not known to be of discerning taste. They just follow the masses.

The Bee Movie was no big deal but made money because it was Seinfeld. I don't hate his stuff but wouldn't slap down any money to see him. I think he's a medium rate talent with a high end rep.

Larry David was primarily responsible for the writing of Jerry's series, true. What's proven interesting is that Julia Louis Dreyfus and Jason Alexander are the only two that had small and big screen success before and after the series -- JLD is hilirious on Old Christine.

well...not quite. seinfeld wrote and executive produced his series with david. it was seinfelds idea to do a show about 'nothing" their collaboration made the series work. they happened to have good chemistry. i think they equally contributed to the show's success. I am not the biggest fan of his stand up act, but admire him.

we went to college together and he was driven with tons of ambition.

Don't 99.99% of stand up comedian make their living bitching about things?

I've been amazed that America has been under the Seinfeld spell for so long (15 years or so). I don't mean Seinfeld the show; there were a lot of cooks in that kitchen that saved the day. But almost every bit that Jerry has ever done on his own has had the subtext of, "Gee, wouldn't it just be a wonderful world if everyone else would just disappear?" Go back and listen to his stand-up. It's subtle and done artistically, but his pure disdain for people is just stunning.

"His pure disdain for people is just stunning."
I think that sums up why I lot of people don't like him, but I find it somewhat fascinating and sadly relate to it like many others.

I totally agree. He doesn't like people. He's soulless. No warmth... God he gives me the creeps.

He's been dyeing his hair now, what, for something like 20 years ?

it turns out i think that the others on the show had more talent: larry david, julia dreyfus, and jason alexander

as another response said, he is soulless.

I'll BET he hates kids Birthday parties,

He probably still has to take his wife to Chuck E. Cheeses for her birthday every year.
