Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- The shoe hurled at President George W. Bush has sent sales soaring at the Turkish maker as orders pour in from Iraq, the U.S. and Iran.

The brown, thick-soled "Model 271" may soon be renamed "The Bush Shoe" or "Bye-Bye Bush," Ramazan Baydan, who owns the Istanbul-based producer Baydan Ayakkabicilik San. & Tic., said in a telephone interview today.

"We've been selling these shoes for years but, thanks to Bush, orders are flying in like crazy," he said. "We've even hired an agency to look at television advertising."

for what its worth, i think those shoes are ugly and i hope no guy would ever buy them (much less wear them) unless there was some crazy baazar sale going on... and the whole idea of americans buying these shoes because of the Bush incident is kind of silly. that would be like me going out and buying the monica dress that president clinton "stained" to make a political point.

On the conservative side, this is the greatest example of the success of the Bush middle-east policy yet seen - that an ordinary guy can throw a shoe at the most powerful man in the world and merely be arrested. (I have seen the articles that the Iraqi police put the smack down on the dude). Nevertheless, under Sadaam Hussein, such a thing would not even be imagined.

an excellent point... i often state that the irony of mr. al-zaidi shoe-throwing incident is that he was only able to carry it out as a consequence of the Bush-led war which he so much despises... if saddam hussein were still in power (and without Bush's decision he still would be), Mr. Al-zaidi would probably not even have an opportunity to attend a press conference, and if he did, similar behaviour would lead to his summary execution (if he was luckly).

The Iraqi reporter is SINGLEHANDEDLY RESPONSIBLE for creating 100 good manufacturing jobs in Turkey.
I've been saying it from the beginning, he's gonna get a medal, a parade and a seat in the Iraqi Congress once Bush is gone.

I think all the American reporters should wear the model "Model 271" at the next Bush press conference.

They cost about 40 dollars a pair in Iraq before the heroic gesture by the young freedom fighter.

The price is going to rise of course but it will probably still stay under $100. Good gifts for liberals and would make good stocking stuffers for children of liberals, if liberals had children.

Hey Ramirez, are you still on that Liberals are monsters from outer space kick ?
Hasn't your hero Bush lost you enough money ?
Get with the program my man, Barack won, Liberals won; get used to it , yo might make out better under a Liberal Administration.
One more thing, we do have kids and we don't want them to die in a stupid war that should have never taken place.
