Amen or Amen-Re IS an Egyptian deity.

Which part of this don't you understand?

G-WooWoo claimed:

" g35
isnt it odd that the catholic church still ends their prayers with the word amen..??"

I pointed out that the "amen" used at the end of prayers translated to "so be it."

I provided the definition and the entymology of the word.

All the other stuff is c r a p.

G-WooWoo was WRONG about the amen used at the end of prayers.

Understand now?

To the average joe, Amen means "so be it", "word up", "nuff said", "in a nutshell", without prejudice to its entymology if I might add in my two cents :).

From Wiki:

Popular among some theosophists and adherents of esoteric Christianity is the conjecture that amen is a derivative of the name of the Egyptian god Amun (which is sometimes also spelled Amen). Some adherents of Eastern religions believe that amen shares roots with the Sanskrit word, aum. There is no academic support for either of these views.

And from "New Advent":

Finally, we may note that the word Amen occurs not infrequently in early Christian inscriptions, and that it was often introduced into anathemas and gnostic spells. Moreover, as the Greek letters which form Amen according to their numerical values total 99 (alpha=1, mu=40, epsilon=8, nu=50), this number often appears in inscriptions, especially of Egyptian origin, and a sort of magical efficacy seems to have been attributed to its symbol. It should also be mentioned that the word Amen is still employed in the ritual both of Jews and Mohammedans.
________

So, it's an interesting discussion and there are varying points of view.

If you run around searching it on the Internet, there is quite a discussion about its derivation, with some proposing it did come from this Egyptian god. I'm not saying it DID, just that there is apparently discussion about it.

Typical WooWoos. When they are shown to be wrong, they go off on a tangent.

In French, gateau means cake. In Spanish, cat.

By your WooWoo logic, you have PROOF that Marie Antoinette said "Let them eat cats."

I sincerely do not believe there will be a cover up from foreign investors or their respective governments who have been tricked into any of these "Ponzi schemes"...

That is if we want to recover any shred of continued foreign commerce....

Financial chicanery and terrorism are not mutually exclusive events these days. Artificially high oil prices held for an extended period of time have created a financial bonanza for terrorist cells around the globe. The convoluted nature of global financial networks is such that transactions benefiting terrorism are virtually invisible to all those without sophisticated inside information regarding the workings of the underground economy. My point is simple, the FBI needs to start the learning curve process regarding the symbiotic relationship between terrorist acts and the financing of such if we are to prevent something far more sinister than 911 happening here or elsewhere.

Etymology
Amen, meaning so be it, is of H.ebrew origin[6][7]. The word was imported into the Greek of the early Church from the J.ewish synagogue.[2][8]. From Greek, amen entered the other Western languages. According to a standard dictionary etymology, amen passed from Greek into Late Latin, and thence into English.[9]

The H.ebrew word "amen derives from the H.ebrew verb 'aman, a primitive root.[10] Grammarians frequently list "aman under its three consonants ('mn), which are identical to those of "amen .[9] This triliteral root ('mn) means to be firm, confirmed, reliable, faithful, have faith, believe. Two English words that derive from this root are: ...

It's pretty pathetic and symptom of what our society has fallen to when the Wall Street big shots and bankers are where the most crime is committed in the country. so much so they have to divert from other areas to handle the high rate of crime.

A conflict across the ages – The Egyptian God of truth “”Amen”” – Lay to waist by the “””Lord””” Thy God – Thou shall have no other - Gods before me.
No one can say growing up in Egypt – and hearing the word amen – was the truth behind all things – one would start to say amen – as being the word for truth.
But ask a simple question? Being the “”Lord”” thy God – and he just showed you what there god of truth really was – How would that be seen in your eyes and heard in your heart – when the very people you saved – calls upon that destroyed God Amen as the truth?
Could that have been the golden calf builders?

WRONG! 555 ft. = 6660 in.
55 ft. = 660 in.

You're not even bothering to check this. A MILLION people are 'researching' crap all over the internet and in sensational books that all reference and use each other as footnotes.

At some point you people need to face the very real possibility that the rabbit hole doesn't end... and THEN where will you be? As one who has traveled very, very deep into it indeed, I can tell you this: living well in the here and now is the best revenge. Live fair and don't meddle in the affairs of others unless it's absolutely necessary, and you'll be free of SO much...

A sane, safe society is made up of sane, fair people. You only are involved in what you get involved in. Paying attention to these "elites", heeding them validates their 'beliefs'. Ignore them, and live your own life. Get you own power, and use it well.

Strong-willed, non-obsessive people are not easy to control. Fanatics are predictable and easy to corral.

Suzy dear, I've had solar power at home for close to four years. My idea to get the rest of you to put it on your homes is to tax petroleum, and to use part of the proceeds to subsidize photovoltaics.

But enough of that. What do YOU think about the lame-duck Bush Administration making an empty gesture to re-prioritize law enforcement towards white-collar crimes? This, after they watched on the sidelines for eight years?

This story sounds fake.

If Madoff knew he was going to be busted, he could have fled to Israel and would not have had to worry about extradition. Instead he just waited to get arrested? That seems very unlikely.

FBI agents only work easy safe cases which is why this country is run by "organizations we don't talk about". FBI agents just bust a few harmless drug users to look good.

They should be the "Federal Bureau of Safe Easy Popular Investigations".
