Sarah Palin frequently disparaged the political press when campaigning with John McCain. But she tells Human Events' John Gizzi in an interview that she wishes she had spent more time talking to the media:

GIZZI: What was the biggest mistake made in the '08 campaign?

PALIN: The biggest mistake made was that I could have called more shots on this: the opportunities that were not seized to speak to more Americans via media. I was not allowed to do very many interviews, and the interviews that I did were not necessarily those I would have chosen. But I was so thankful to have the opportunity to run with John McCain that I was not going to argue with the strategy decisions that some of his people were making regarding the media contacts?

But if I would have been in charge, I would have wanted to speak to more reporters because that's how you get your message out to the electorate.

In general, the Alaska Governor (named "Conservative of the Year" by the magazine) seems to think she was over-managed.

GIZZI: And what was the most important lesson you learned from the campaign?

PALIN: The campaign was 99.9% amazing and invigorating and inspiring. But looking back, there were so many things that were outside of my control. I was in a campaign in which I did not know the people individually running the campaign. So I had to put my life, my career, my family, and my reputation in their hands. That's kind of a scary thing to do when you don't know the people you are working with.

...

As an administrator, as a chief executive of a state, I am not used to that. I am used to proving my abilities by calling the shots. Then I know the buck stops with me. I made the decisions, and I'm responsible. When others are making decisions for me, as they were in the campaign, and I am the one to live with the fallout from the decisions that were made on my behalf, that is something I am not very comfortable with.

...

[M]y reliance on seeking God's direction in all that I do -- that is good enough for me. And others who have a different worldview and different strategy on messaging and such, I would like to have the opportunity to prove to them that my gut instincts were going to be quite adequate.

Robert Stacy McCain, a blogger at the conservative American Spectator agrees. Read the whole interview, in which Palin discusses the auto bailout and former Sen. Ted Stevens.

What was her "message" exactly? The above quote was all generalities. I think that the sum total of her "message" was that...she has a message.

See, I'm not talking about inspiring hate in her concert-attendees. That was a bonus. I mean, what exactly did she have to say that she didn't say in the campaign?

It's the equivalent of her not being able to specify US Supreme Court cases she disagreed with besides Roe v Wade, or not being able to name a single newspaper she reads.

She talks in generalities because she doesn't know specifics. Her speeches are made of handwavium, not built up from concrete steps.

You can win elections that way, but you cannot govern that way. Try weighing the relative merits of budget line items by blathering on about "real America".

She's a wind sock.

No. You probably be could. But that's just more lying to yourself like you've done for the last eight years.

Too late. He's already "doing", while Bush is busy pardoning criminals.

Same thing about McCain. "I know how to find bin Laden, my friends..." "I know how to fix the economy, my friends..." "I know how to win (?) in Iraq..."

And never, never, never anything concrete.

These are some serious times we're living in and they call for serious people. Sarah Palin disguising herself as a leader in any way shape or form is detrimental to all of society and an insult to all intelligent women everywhere. To even think that this person was considered for the 2nd highest office in the land when she can't even form a coherent sentence is horrifying.

Alaska needs to reclaim its pride by voting this farcical figure out of office in the next election. The lower 48 has done you all a great service by doing the vetting that should have been done when she announced for governor. It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that she was no rocket scientist.

Sarah Palin is an EVANGELICAL CHAUVINIST (a religious bigot) and as such is hardly acceptable to represent America in any capacity except as h a t e-monger. Since the Republican Party is the gathering place of h_aters and dividers, Sarah Palin is celebrated.

Sarah Palin is Wendigo and her career must not be allowed to grow.

In reply to rightone11, Biden's an Einstein in comparison, with both a bachelors and JD from decent institutions and only one per degree. Palin went to 5 schools, several quite dubious in search of a Bachelors degree in jounalism. I cannot think of one individual I know who transferred so many times to get a degree. She must have had a problem adjusting in school. Does not bode well for her.

Spoken by an informed citizen of Alaska? Alaskans are unique people and not used to being ushered around like cattle. It takes them some time to learn that in the lower 48, the liberal institutions of learning, believe their students ARE cattle, and how to deal with that.

Yeah! All those liberal "gotcha" questions those "elite" professors expect you to answer like a trained dog! Takes time to find one that understands the special needs of a former beauty queen!

What that clueless monster STILL doesn't realize is that as soon as the American public
heard her "message" they wanted nothing to do with her.

McCain's team was right to try and shut her up, she was the best thing that happened to the
Obama campaign.

Sure she had her base of toothless morons and really old people but no where
near enough votes percentage wise to win a nation election.

mccains biggest mistakes go in this chronological order:

1)saying he didn't care if we were in iraq for 100 years

2) saying the fundamentals of our economy were strong

3) picking sarah palin AND letting her speak instead of just standing there and looking pretty with her mouth shut

I guess about the best that can be said about her is she has no self-esteem issues.

All I want for Christmas is for her to go away...

Couldn't Bristol just pop that kid already and Grandma Palin can turn her attention away from the country and back to her family?

I'm interested in finding out if Bristol's 2nd child looks like her first child Trig? Has it been born yet? Was suppose to arrive Sat the 20th. Is he/she coming out with black skin tone like his father Kevin? Levi the father of one or two or none? Maybe his dopey mother will remember? I've seen very convincing reports that Trig is not Sarah's but Bristol's. That family is full of lies and she expected to lead this country down the straight and narrow...as a psychopath? Yikes.

I believe that Mccain would have lost even if she had not been on the ticket. It just might have been a little bit tighter if she had not been on it instead of the landslide.

What is frightening to me, is that this person is raising children under her direction. Which does not give much hope for future generations.

I'm thankful for SP coming to the spotlight. I'm especially thankful to Obama and his constant reminders that it is all about US. Because ~ Now more than ever, I am able to see that Sarah's mindset and thought process is all too common among our 'Leadership' in America in outlandish ways.

AA AA AA AA AA AA AA AA AA AA HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH HH H!!!!!!

GWB, Sarah, Michelle Bachman, Blago, bank ceos, Paulson, Kwame,.....etc...etc.....It knows no political line. Greed and crazy.

Now that we are all paying attention ~ we have alternative outlets for info., etc ~ we are 'learning' soooooo much. It's like living through Oceans Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen.........The entitlement and arrogance is mind blowing.
