Spalin

Sarah Palin frequently disparaged the political press when campaigning with John McCain. But she tells Human Events' John Gizzi in an interview that she wishes she had spent more time talking to the media:

GIZZI: What was the biggest mistake made in the '08 campaign?

PALIN: The biggest mistake made was that I could have called more shots on this: the opportunities that were not seized to speak to more Americans via media. I was not allowed to do very many interviews, and the interviews that I did were not necessarily those I would have chosen. But I was so thankful to have the opportunity to run with John McCain that I was not going to argue with the strategy decisions that some of his people were making regarding the media contacts?

But if I would have been in charge, I would have wanted to speak to more reporters because that's how you get your message out to the electorate.

In general, the Alaska Governor (named "Conservative of the Year" by the magazine) seems to think she was over-managed.

GIZZI: And what was the most important lesson you learned from the campaign?

PALIN: The campaign was 99.9% amazing and invigorating and inspiring. But looking back, there were so many things that were outside of my control. I was in a campaign in which I did not know the people individually running the campaign. So I had to put my life, my career, my family, and my reputation in their hands. That's kind of a scary thing to do when you don't know the people you are working with.

...

As an administrator, as a chief executive of a state, I am not used to that. I am used to proving my abilities by calling the shots. Then I know the buck stops with me. I made the decisions, and I'm responsible. When others are making decisions for me, as they were in the campaign, and I am the one to live with the fallout from the decisions that were made on my behalf, that is something I am not very comfortable with.

...

[M]y reliance on seeking God's direction in all that I do -- that is good enough for me. And others who have a different worldview and different strategy on messaging and such, I would like to have the opportunity to prove to them that my gut instincts were going to be quite adequate.

Robert Stacy McCain, a blogger at the conservative American Spectator agrees. Read the whole interview, in which Palin discusses the auto bailout and former Sen. Ted Stevens.

her "gut instincts" were in fine-form the day she gabbed to "the president of france" for 5 minutes.

she has no idea how uneducated and unprofessional she really is.
she's a TRUE NARCISSIST.

Bwahaha! McCain's biggest mistake (other than running this year) was selecting you at all meine Fraulein! LOL! He probably should have kept you and Todd away from the campaign funds as well so you couldn't stock Todd's closet full of silk boxers. But that's another story. And who wears silk boxers riding snow machines?

Wish, she'd run for Hillary's Seat. Then we could watch two knuckleheads go at it!

Her biggest mistake was "accepting the offer" from McCain!

There is one way for her to prove her statement and that is to run for a national election and see how many votes she gets without McDoofus. The only way that I would vote for her is if she was running in an election to be a test subject to see how long a human could survive in a vacuum.

Seems to have survived quite a long time . . . . exceeded a few years only by Bush.

Agent420:
"The Real Americans" would vote for her. Perhaps Sarah Palin thinks she can win the e/college with those votes. Who knows how she "counts". LOL

Nothing worst on this planet than stupid people thinking they know it all and should be heard. Paling is the poster child for that group. Cant she just go away????

OMG I can't believe she is still talking and being displayed for our eyes and ears to continue to take the torture of lol. McCain's biggest mistake was putting her on his team in the first place. She was the main downfall for him regardless if she spoke in the beginning or at the end. She knows absolutely nothing about nothing even on ENERGY. I'm appalled at the thought of her even coming close to running this country. Palin, please go away and take your little plumber Joe with you ! Go catch up on some History and Constitution courses.

No, Airhead, McCain's biggest mistake was "Choosing You" in the first place.
You are arguably the least educated person ever to run for high office in this once great nation.
You had the unmitigated gall to attempt to pass yourself off as a "qualified but mis-handled" candidate.
Fact is, there is no ammount of window dressing that could have hidden your ineptitude. You, Ms. Palin, are a PHONY!!!

That's silly. McCain's made much bigger mistakes than that.

McCain's (and his campaign's) biggest mistake was not providing you a notebook like the one Geraldine Ferraro got when Mondale picked her. It had all his votes/positions, all of her votes/postitions, and all the positions the Mondale/Ferraro team were taking. Unlike Palin, Ferraro was intelligent and studied dutifully. Palin couldn't be bothered with McCain's "minions", what they tried to help her with, or anything else that require her to use that brain stem of hers.

Palin really didn't have much time to study, with McCain hastily picking her the way he did.

You're probably overestimating McCain's minions.

That campaign was doomed from the bottom up, imo.

She didn't even know what the VP 's job duties were. How can a Governor even ask that question ? She also didn't know what the bailout was about (i.e. going to help with healthcare). Did McCain shelter her from the news and other current events the entire first half of the campaign ? Even during the VP debate she did not answer a single question with a decent knowledgeable response and became arrogant during the process. She is one of those women who try to get by on looks and wit, maybe that worked with some of these big failing banks, but it won't work when it comes to the National Leadership of our nation..Thank God America saw through that rambling nonsense and winking...You betcha !

We the People have to become the Watchers in Palin's case. We must do every thing we can to educate ourselves, our children, and our friends and neighbors -- so a person with this amount of delusional narcissism and ignorance can't get elected to national office.
Insulting her, and other people, might be fun but isn't very useful. W hat is important is keeping track of what this woman is doing and how she abuses her power. The media have done a poor job of tracking Palin's wretched record in Wasilla and her do-nothing pretense at governing.
Fellow citizens, it's up to us!

Calling the shots eh? So full of herself. She should be happy Macky reined her in. If he hadn't, there would have been no one else to blame but her. But would she have admitted culpability? I doubt it.

Palin's a master of unqualified arrogance.

She probably thinks McCain's biggest mistake was not putting her first on the ticket.
