Malaysia's New Trafficking Law Leads To First Conviction Over Prostitution Case

An Indian woman has been sentenced to eight years in jail by a Malaysian court in Kuala Lumpur for forcing her 33-year-old compatriot into prostitution, thus becoming first person to be convicted under the country's new Anti-Trafficking In Persons Act.
The court was told on Monday that the victim had been promised a maid's job (with a monthly salary of about Rs 6000) by her Indian agent Punitha Raja (32), local media reports said.
