In an interview with CNN's Suzanne Malveaux, conservative Pat Robertson said he was "remarkably pleased" with President-elect Barack Obama. Not so for President Bush, who he blames for the economic crisis. On President Bush:

ROBERTSON: Well, it's hard to assess blame, but I -- over the years -- I hate to be critical, I mean I am a Republican, and this is the president of the party that I'm a member of -- but I think we've had some serious goofs along the way. The Katrina matter was terrible. The rebuilding of Iraq has been terrible. The hailing (ph) of the economy right now has been terrible.

It hasn't been handled in what I would consider a professional manner.

MALVEAUX: How would you grade the president in light of all of the -- the laundry list that you just listed there?

ROBERTSON: Well you know, history may accord him a higher grade than his contemporaries and I think he's hoping for that, and we are.

But I believe I would look at about a C-minus right now if I were grading him.

On President-elect Obama:

MALVEAUX: Are you looking forward to an Obama administration? A change?

ROBERTSON: I am remarkably pleased with Obama. I had grave misgivings about him. But so help me, he's come in forcefully, intelligently. He's picked a middle of the road cabinet. And so far, if he continues down this course, he has the makings of a great president.

So, I'm very pleased so far.

Why wouldn't Pat Robertson be pleased?

Obama just poked the gay community with a stick and appointed Jerry Falwell in a Hawaiin shirt to give the invocation at the inauguration and stuck it to those evil homosexuals, not appointing a single gay to the cabinet or a major post, appointing only Nancy Sutley in a token minor position. Obama has largely abandoned the left in his cabinet picks and triangulates against the base.

Of course Pat Robertson is thrilled.

It's the people on the left who are awakening to the realization that their supposed progressive champion is just a DLC-Democrat that are upset.

I warned my fellow progressives not to mistake style for substance.

Who are all the openly gay government professionals, retired military, and academics that Obama skipped over? Progressives/left are standing in line either. The people that work for government are bureauracrats, wonks, and relatively middle of road. You can make more money outside of government.

How do you know none of the people selected are gay or lesbians or bisexuals?

In spite of Pat I do things are better and will continue in the direction.

Pat Robertson's pleased with Obama. John McCain is pleased with Obama. Newt Gingrich is pleased with Obama.

My word, what the hell is the Right coming to? Its senses?

I think what this has to do with more than anything else is that theses guys see the same polls that we do, and they all show Obama getting record high approval ratings. They are just going with the tide, but if and when the public turns on him, they'll pounce.

Nothing like an economic crises of global proportions to make people come to their senses. it's all good to play the politics of hate, but with the world in peril, I prefer having a brilliant guy I don't always agree with in charge rather than a buddy who is stubborn and ignorant.

Well... if he was a Teacher at least he got the grade Right... C- .

That was the same grades Dubya got in school... how prophetic.
Too bad Dubya couldn't see His own Prophecy.

D would be very generous for Dubya Boosh. If not for the few things he did about right about HIV/AIDS, an F would have been more in proportion. And of course, I am being generous here.

Pat Robinson take this back now while there is still time, I just saw Rush LImbaugh and he's loaded for bear. Do you really want to tangle with Rush and Hannity.

Is Pat still buying up and flying gold coins out of South Africa?

With there being so much hunger and suffering people in this world, why hasn't Pat used his millions to alleviate some of this suffering?

You know, with him being a BIG christian, and all.

The answer to your question may be explained by the times we have gone through: Future generations may refer to it as "The Gilded Age of the 21st Century" which started with the Reagan administration 1981 and ended with the Bush administration 2009. It was characterized by mass greedy wealth accumulation by heads of corporate, financiers and religious organizations .

It is very similiar to the Gilded Age of the 19th century:

The end of the Gilded Age coincided with the Panic of 1893, a deep depression. The depression lasted until 1897 and marked a major political realignment in the election of 1896. After that came the Progressive Era.

My thoughts about Pat Robertson aside, the man does have a big influence over right leaning religous peoples. Perhaps this will offer them a way towards the center.

What we are seeing is the result of 'engagement', as opposed to the ideological purity exclusion of the past 8 years. I trust PE Obama to know how to watch his back, and he's got some good people to help. While I am not in favor of Warren, I think the choice has already paid off, at least in the short term, by de-fusing the 'purity' of the Right's message.

I know it's not that simple, just a speculation...

I agree. I was surprised by his choice of Warren as well. But it seems like Obama is attempting to build some sort of a "bridge". This may be wise choice in the long run as long as he remains careful & prudent.

Why does everything have to be about sides? Its counterproductive. It would be nice to see the pendulum toward the middle instead of getting stuck to the radical right or left.

Speak for yourself, I'm a lifelong lefity and so far he's done everything I expected of him, including Warren, because he said he would reach out to those he disagreed with.

Maybe if you had actually LISTENED to what he said during the 2 years he was running, you wouldn't be feeling so (d)numb.

"I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate -- this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." –Pat Robertson, on "gay days" at Disneyworld

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson

No one has ever accused Pat Robertson of being consistent.

Crazy, yes. Consistent, no.

I'm going to stick with the idea that if Obama can win over conservatives, then it is a sign of how good a leader he will be.
