Which politician should be top Santa's naughty list this year? If the American public had anything to say about it, Rod Blagojevich would beat out John Edwards and Eliot Spitzer for the title of the naughtiest politician of 2008.

Asked which political figure deserved a lump of coal this Christmas, the scandal-scarred Blagojevich was picked by more Americans than the other two candidates combined.

There is a world of difference between Blago and Spitzer/Edwards. Other than the fact that two broke the law and all are politicians, I see few points of comparison. Spitzer was brought down by failing to live up to his own public rhetoric and legislation. Edwards validated every suspicion we all had about lawyers, and where they put their pro bonos.

Neither Spitz or Edwards blamed anyone else for their failings, and have apologized, though the tortured straight jacketed squirming of Edwards' mea culpa were almost harder to take than the betrayal itself.

Blago is a different animal entirely. He's a bottom feeder with a trail of chum stretching back to his political birth. He has long and famously lived down to every one of his principles, and is unrepentant about it. The only question in his mind is whether he can tar the president elect and his staff with the same brush. If he can make all politicians crooks then he's just one of the boys.

In our national frame of reference he may seem delusional but in the smaller confines of Chicago politics, he's just playing a cheerful game of hardball. He's betting it all that Obama and Co. blink, promising that if he goes down, he'll see as many as possible roast in hell with him. In other words, Chicago business as usual.

I think W just got cheated. C'mon, all Blago did was try to sell a senate seat. That's nothing compared to what W, Dick, Karl, Abramoff, etc have accomplished. I think it's simply the "newness" of Blago and Spitzer that bumped W.

Talk about Republican morons grasping at straws. It is clear from the responses that the question asked was which of the three, Blago, Edwards or Spitzer, was the naughtiest. CANNED RESPONSES, WITH NO REPUBLICAN CHOICES!!! The responses total 98% for GAWDSSAKES. If this had been an open-ended question, I am sure that plenty of Republicans would be at the top of the list.
