I Like ItI Don’t Like It

It increasingly seems that all parties are on track to make an "Arrested Development" movie - except perhaps for Michael Cera.

From Mitch Hurwitz, who is the creator and executive producer of the show, to narrator and producer Ron Howard and much of the cast, enthusiasm for the project is high.

In fact, "Juno" and "Superbad" actor Michael Cera, who played George Michael Bluth, appears to be the lone holdout.

Fancast scored an interview with Hurwitz, and he revealed the following:

So what of the rumors that new dad Will Arnett and shiny movie star Michael Cera are the only two remaining holdouts?

"I don't want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don't want to pressure anyone through the press," said Hurwitz. "Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there's a big clue!"

More than a big clue, it's the big Maebe resting in George Michael's hands.

Less George Michael, more George and more Michael. Solved.

Huge mistake on Cera's part if he holds out. Cult show viewers hold grudges. Whatever happened to Denise Crosby's career after she left Star Trek for the movies?

Right.

She had a minor role anyway and for that matter not that many star trek actors managed to have a big career after their run.

Yeah, and what happened to Kristie Alley after she asked for more than Shatner for subesquent Star Trek movies? Huh?

Cera seems like a nice kid--it's hard to fake that, and it is the way he comes across off screen. So what? Just because he isn't enthisiastic doesn't mean it's for jerk reasons.

Oh, but Kirstie Ally was a jerk...and it seemed to work out okay for her anyway.

Nothing wrong with playing a little hardball in contract negotiations. It's not his fault he's lept from obscurity to budding celebrity in the time since the show's been off the air.

get George Michael The Singer to play the part. And kill him off in the opening credits. funny!

Hah. One of my favorite moments in the series was when Michael was asking GM about who the note about the pot could be addressed to, and GM says, "Maybe it's the other George Michael. You know, the singer-songwriter."

IF true -- and I'm in no way convinced this story has any meat -- just send George Michale to college and move forward with all the funnier cast members.

There has to be a good explanation for this. Michael Cera doesn't seem like a diva to me. He's been a supporting actor more than anything. There better be a good reason to pass on this movie. George Michael is a vital character. I prefer the movie to include everyone but Lindsay and Maeby are probably the only ones I wouldn't miss. I love Michael Cera, but the movie could go on without him. G.O.B., Tobias, George Sr., and Lucille are the STARS to me ;-)

Another diva whose talent isn't nearly as big as his head.

Get a life. Seriously, you're jumping to conclusions over an unconfirmed rumor.

Even if Cera can't do it, there are a million possible reasons why.

It seems to me that even if Cera can't or won't do it, AD can still be quintessentially AD with another actor playing the role. Just have the entire family act cold and distant towards George Michael, and constantly say things like "You've changed..." It would change the dynamic of the family, sure, but it could also be utterly hilarious if handled right.

Everyone in that family is too self involved to notice, even if George Michael suddenly became an old Cambodian woman.

I don't think this is true. I read an interview with Michael saying how excited he was about the AD movie so of course he's going to do it.

Don't forget where you got your start, Cera, and don't get too big for your breeches.

"Britches", actually. Breeches would be more of a contractual thing.

Otherwise, I enjoy how you put your words down, even aimed at me. Matters not one bit.

You scrap well, and I agree with most everything you stand for. Once you get that pole removed from your can you will be a glorious bastard.

One could follow you straight to Hell beyond that.

I'll boycott him for the rest of his career if he doesn't do this movie.

While I'm sad that Michael Cera's hesitancy to make a commitment to this film is perhaps holding back a start date, I'm sad to see so many people tear this young man down because he is taking his time to make a decision. Every interview I've read with Cera seems to indicate he is a shy, thoughtful young man who has been thrust into fame by choosing wise, solid projects (many not expected to be huge hits) that have turned him into a "thinking girl's sex symbol". He is a quality kid (he's only 21) and is doing his job well and living his life respectfully. I wish everyone would cut him a break and refrain from criticizing his decisions until the jury is in on whether or not this project will or will not be moving forward. It's Christmas for Chrissakes. Show some compassion.

Huge fan of the show, and would love to see the movie. Only if all the characters come back though. No one is mentioning Jeffrey Tambor who MADE THE SHOW as George Bluth Sr. and uncle Oscar. If Cera thinks playing George Michael again would type-cast him, he needs to watch every performance he's ever given and ask himself if that isn't a bridge long since burned. Personally, I love his persona and think it's genius, but I don't think he's going to pick up an oscar anytime soon for jumping in to a meaty character role. Maybe it's just me.
