In some countries, being son-less would be considered a weakness, especially in a leader. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has two sons. So does Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, while French Prime Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has three. Even his Majesty King Letsie III, potentate of Lesotho, has a son.

The Obamas are a great little family. I hope the job doesn't spoil what looks to be a great relationship between Barack and his daughters - my gut tells me he has his priorities straight, however.
One point...in all the talk about the future of Caroline Kennedy, little has been said about the potential JFK, Jr. held in politcal office. I think he had a huge future in politics - certainly smart and by far the best looking of all the Kennedys. His death is still a huge disappointment to me after watching him grow up. It didn't appear that he had a reticence to make public appearances and didn't suffer from shyness like Caroline.
I was totally with you until that last little bit. The Obamas are in a good place now with the girls able to function without continuous mom/dad intervention, yet you want to inject a new baby into this blissful family scene? Pu-leeze. Not to mention that for all you know Obama may be one of those types of men who only produce daughters, so how many times shall Michelle, at her age, put her, or a child's, health in danger just to give Barack, who seems content with his girls, a son?

Well.... that's a lot of pressure to put on Michelle Obama. I wouldn't suggest my next door neighbor should have a child for the sake of the hoi poli. Come on. Michelle seems with childbearing and those girls are treasures. Get a grip.
Michelle is just shy of 45, certainly not old, but probably past time to have anymore children.
Maybe it is better not to have sons after what happened with Bush. Of course, the father of that son was no prize either. Lets just hope daddy Bush doesn't buy the White House for his other son, Jeb Bush.
Give me a break. Boys are awesome and Michelle and Barack have incrediblel girls.I would love to see a boy or to add to the mix. Both sexes are equally capable of making a mess or fixing messes.

I practically cry every time I see photos of JFK Jr. Entirely too sad.
Even after all these years, I know. I still cry when I see RFK. I wonder what our world would have been like if he had lived and won in '68.
I have every issue of his magazine, "George" and it was a joy to read. Way before it's time. In many ways a lot like Huff Post in it's vision and you know he would have embraced the citizen journalist. I was giving him twenty years to mellow. But you know what....? Obama wasn't in that timeline. (Those who can follow will.)
