25 hottest searches and not a single one porn-related? :))))) wow... I'm actually surprised porn was topped by ukulele.

Any searches for "conspicuous consumption"? No, I thought not.

I always laugh at people who search for a URL that they already know. Why are you searching for apple.com when you know that apple.com is the web address?

I've observed that a lot of unskilled internet users don't even have the URL field showing in their browser. They have a home page somewhere that displays Google or some other search engine, and they just use that as their internet portal, no matter what they're looking for. Yes, from a power user's view it's highly inefficient. But probably for the unskilled user it reduces the cognitive load, making the browser seem easier to use. AOL featured this ham-fisted approach for years--don't know if they still do.

This is an interface design issue more than anything else, IMHO. If you want to laugh at someone, laugh at the geeks who designed the browser. Or laugh at yourself--for you are bound to be just as clueless in some other realm. In other words, only human!

Good point, these flaws are usually with the designers. I like how microsoft now forces their programmers to use machines that the typical user would use.

my hubby is guilty of typing it into google and getting to his destination that way. i always say, if you know the addy, just type it HERE. Why do you go to google for everything?! Still haven't gotten a good answer for that one yet.

And now, a few hours later, the hot searches include ihop, dennys, and waffle house. Seems strange, but I didn't see any real explanation of what the page actually measures.

Not really, Microsoft still dominates 95% of the world's computer market, plus they own Apple, and iPod's are forced to work with XP and iTunes was first running on Windows, etc, etc. Hate to be a grinch, but it's all Microsoft in my eyes. Jobs surrendered in 1996, invited Gates to MacWorld as the keynote celebrity guest. Gates won.

They (Microsoft) "own" Apple? Apple is gaining market share
with their computers which compete directly with Microsoft products, so I disagree with your analysis./

Ukulele playing is a recent trend. They're very easy to learn to play, and are easy to carry around. I had no idea they were THAT popular, though.

Hooray for iPods! They keep the the drunks , evangelicals and others out of earshot while I am on public transport. Those of us who download the NEW YORK TIMES do not have newspapers to annoy others on omnibuses and on trains. We also reduce litter. We discourage the panhandlers, the vendors of candy for "school teams," and the buskers.
Pure hell is being stuck next to someone making a very personal mobile 'phone call on a 'bus or a commuter trains without my iPod. Most of the New York subways are thankfully without 'phone reception.
