BOULDER, Colo. — A new prosecutor in Colorado says he plans to take a fresh look at one of the country's most high-profile cold cases _ the slaying a dozen years ago of JonBenet Ramsey.

Incoming Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said he'll decide what to do with the investigation in his first 30 days on the job, which he starts Jan. 13. His predecessor, Mary Lacy, publicly exonerated the Ramsey family this year in the Dec. 26, 1996, murder.

Garnett said he might send the case back to the police. The DA's office took over the investigation in 2002 because of criticism of the police department's handling of it.

JonBenet, a 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant, was found bludgeoned and strangled in the basement of her parents' home.

Garnett wants to make a name for himself. It won't be long before Nancy Grace has him on the show. I can only hope that he falls on his face in the investigation and the people of Colorado demand that he pay back all the money he spent, and pay it back from his own pocket and from the auction of all his property.

My guess is that this is being demanded behind the scenes by the 24/7 "news" media. They're afraid Sarah Palin is fading, and they need something cheap and sensational to keep reporting on -- and on, and on, and on, and on.

Mary Lacy was the absolute worst prosecutor.

The ransom note is still the big mystery. Handwriting experts established that it could NOT have been written by any member of the family, except Patsy. They could never prove that Patsy did or did not write it. And, there's the question of how a kidnapper knew the precise amount of John Ramsey's bonus. And, who murders a child and then hangs around the house long enough to write a ransom note that is several pages long?

Patsy Ramsey told the police that Burke (who was 9 at the time) slept through the entire incident. An enhanced replay of her 911 call, however, has Burke asking a question in the background, and John Ramsey telling him to go back to bed.

The DNA? Just one more mystery in this famous case.

Irrespective of who actually murdered her, there's the never-answered question of the injuries to her genital region, consistent with chronic sexual abuse. Blame THAT on an intruder!

Correction: first line "never" should be "ever". Sorry.

The investigation of this case was totally botched by the Boulder police and I don't believe that they will never be able to solve it. The new prosecutor is just trying to make a name for himself. Don't waste taxpayer money on this. If you really want to review this cold case send the evidence to another police department who has murder experience and see what they have to say about the possibility of bringing charges.

I would say it, but I'd get sued by Lynn Wood.

I think everyone would like to know who truly killed this innocent child, but the Colorado police/detectives botched this up so badly that I don't think anyone is ever going to truly know.

Isn't it time to just let this case go and let her little soul rest in peace.

Enough is going on in this world without having to dredge up old murder cases. We need to focus on the now.

Nothing can be done to bring her back.

If "the now" encompasses a child- killer on the loose, part of our focus should be on apprehending them before they get another urge.

If this murder was committed by a child sex abuser (and one assumes it was) then you cannot keep the case in the fridge because these people strike again. I understand what you say Chlowina but the case must remain open.

I would have Fear and Panic in my voice if I had just killed my own Kid.
That is not proof of innocence.

Why do you assume that the reopening of the case is an attempt to get at the Ramseys? The question of the mysterious male DNA should exonerate them both, unless of course, it winds up incriminating them....
