I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Chip Saltsman stirred controversy when, in his campaign to be the next RNC chairman, he distributed copies of a song called "Barack the Magic Negro." The song originally aired on Rush Limbaugh's talk radio show. MSNBC's Tamron Hall weighed in on the controversy, saying she wouldn't find it funny if someone called her "Tamron Hall the Magic Negro Anchor Lady."

Watch it below (via ThinkProgress).

If the RNC is so keen to defend Limbaugh and his dispicable scapegoating and divisive tirades, then they can ROT with the rest of these wooden-headed NeoCons who haven't yet grasped that the country has largely moved on from this sort of cynicism!

The comparison can be made with Democrats who are willng to defend Obama's choice of Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration.

Look, you guys need to stop this. It is getting rediculous. Gays are getting to be as bad as the republican party with this bitterness the community continues to expouse. We are turning every topic under the sun into a opportunity to moan and groan about something that is already in the past tense. Our community is crying over something that just occured on November 4th, when blacks in this country have gone through this for more than 200 years.

I have said this ones, and I will say it again. When our community deals with the racial bigotry within its own ranks, then they can talk to me about bigotry of Warren. When I see the day that blacks are treated equally within the gay community, that is when I will fight for equality for our community. Bigotry begats bigotry, so before dealing with Warren, we need to deal with ourselves.

No it isn't, but niether is equating gays rights with the civil rights movement, but a lot of you do that without in deep thought.

the funny thing is the GOP hack's "defense" is that the GOP candidate was wrong for doing it, but Rush Limbaugh is somehow noble & honorable for his "explanation" -- haha how clueless & out of touch can Repugs get?

I wonder how many of the GOP members who received the CD returned it with a 'thanks but no thanks' message. . .

Good question. I would guess that, if any of them did say "no thanks," they aren't about to admit it publically.

This really is part of the GOP strategy. I expect the vast majority of GOP politicians to remain silent about it.

Why does the GOP think just because they talk louder, that makes them right. They talk loud, repeat themselves over and over, and change the subject. The Bully tactic...

Seemed to work pretty well for the first 5 years or so of W's reign....that is until the internet and the blogosphere caught up with the propagandizing NeoCons and created some 'volume' of their own!

The internet has become the equalizer of the airwaves, and it certainly paid off this year in the election.

Remember an empty barrel can do nothing but make lots and lots of noise....GOP have nothing worthy of saying so screaming is what they do to drown out the voices of people who have something worth hearing.

The song is derogatory to Obama, and the RNC fool who put it out there is childish and stupid.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:40 PM on 12/30/2008

The racism of the song is beyond doubt but noone should be surprised as this is simply what the republican party has degenerated into today. To say that Obama is not "black enough" because he has demonstrated a lifetime of academic and political achievement is to say that those accomplishments or values are things which are not inherently embraced by black americans. It is to say that blacks "inherently" are more likely to be "mediocre" in terms of academics or politics. Hence, its a disgusting attack not on Obama but on blacks generally as it uses a racist definition of "blackness." But hey I like Chip as head of the RNC. Obama's collection of nearly 2/3 the hispanic vote gave him the wins in NV,NM,CO and allowed Obama to close a 30 pt margin in McCain's home state of AZ to just 8 on election day - who's to say how AZ will go in 2012 with McCain off the ticket and how about TX? Its only a matter of time and with idiots like Chip at the wheel, the GOP's march to oblivion is right on course.

Yeah, it's really NOT funny. WTF, why would that be funny?

We could go all day long calling somebody: Blank the Magic Whatever.

They would not be happy.

Does Rush need to pay that woman to defend him? No, she is being dishonest. She is trying to help her buddy Chip by eliding this "defense" that in some way is geared toward offering him a fig leaf -- that is, if it is okay for Rush to offer a parody that is supposedly really a jab at Sharpton (is it? I doubt it), it's somehow understandable if not forgiveable Chip distributed it.

Nice try. Ain't buying.

The republicans were clearly mocking Obama's race. They mock race. They mock the poor. They mock unions. If you're not some rich businessman then you're a subject of their ridicule. I hate them and want them permanently out of government.

The only reason the song is named "Barack The Magic N*gro" is because they couldn't say "Barack The Magic N****r". Parody you say?

Socialist! Muslim! Terrorist!

All of these labels to mildly conceal the palpable truth, racism remains.

Climate and geography, the main culprits as to why we aren't all the same skin tone. But that truth is forgotten, while the illusion persists. A democracy where it's subjects aren't trapped by the illusion, I wonder what that would feel like? I imagine it would feel free.

THe title of the song is, on the face of it racist and derogatory. One needs to go no further.

True but actually I find the rest of the song, the lyrics and old time "black face" manner in which they're song just as offensive. That Star Spanglish Banner song if nobody's heard it is also unacceptable ..

LYRICS (first verse)

Jose can you see
By the dawn's early light
Cross the border we sailed
As the Gringos were sleeping

Not a good way to acquire the Hispanic vote. Mz hall rightly stood up to a guest who hasn't the foggiest clue.

As if the initial offense wasn't bad enough, I've read that the "apology" was just as condescending. It was worded as an apology to all the "negroes" that were offended. Then, an apology for the "apology" stated that the first apology should have been to all the Negroes (capital N) and sorry for the lower case "N". Now, don't we all feel better?

The RNC once again shows it's true self and reveals it's hateful core. The nail is in the coffin for the RNC.

If you so allow me Spyturtle, I'll go one step further and say that this episode shows not only the GOP's hateful core. It also shows that there's an astonishly lack of intelligence on those left in the party. If this is the best that the party can offer for candidate to chairman, we probably should start crying. This is one of the most repugnant actions a person can commit. And I'm not going to say is childish behavior because that will be an insult...to children. Regardless of your opinions on the man, Obama, it is sad to see that the GOP cannot think of anything else where they can match him. No match of brains, education, speaking abilities, strategy planning, future vision, etc. The only thing they find left is to resort to insult him because of the color of his skin. One piece of advice to the repugs, and it is free, please do not elect that guy to your chairmanship. You need someone that gets you out of the disaster you all put yourselves in. One stupidity a century is all that you're allowed. And you already used that chance when you allowed Pulin to run as VP.

This actually will make the GOP stronger. They are pandering to big0ts, one of their unsung voting blocs.

It seems to be the thing to do this year, in both parties.

the GOP folks should be, at least, a little frank in this discussion. For openers, if our good friend Rush used something relating to candidate Obama on his show, we can, with certainty, conclude it was demeaning of Mr. Obama and designed to undercut his candidacy. However, for eight years we've seen an inability of the GOP leadership to admit any mistake no matter how large or small. Mr Saltsman is, at best, a dolt for his use of the song. If the GOP has any sense, they will kick him back into a storeroom along with Sarah Palin, carefully lock the door and try to recover as a viable political party. The party has gone a long way toward destroying our nation and just as far (maybe farther) toward destroying themselves. It's now up to the people of our country, with Democratic leadership, to work to repair the damage to the country. However, it's up to Republicans to try to repair the damage to their party. If Mr. Saltsman is representative of the party, I don't think they're up to the task.

I don't think folks outside the Deep South realize the mindset of Saltsman's constiuency. They're thinking -- "Hey, it's just fun. The song doesn't call for a cross burning or a lynching, for gosh sake!" They really don't see derision, hate speech, marginalization, exclusion, to be "hateful" just standard operating procedure. As for the rest of the GOP -- I suspect they're embracing their defiantly "down-home," "real America," racist white minority identity and may well make Saltsman head of the dying party as a big F.U. to the rest of the country. A gesture I fully support for it's self-destructiveness. It's one thing to vote them out of all power in 2006 and 2008, it's just very special when you watch them skin themselves alive and bleed to death.

It does mock Obama; the rnc pundit is yelling and lying trying to change to perception, typical of the rnc
This type of behavior is advocated and supported by the RNC always; remember the core of the RNC is full of former Democratic dissenters, who left the Democratic Party in protest to civil rights etc
If I remember correctly it was during the 60's
So their core does not like any minority, then they added religion to their mix and now they hate gays n lesbians, and all Muslims, whether they are violent or not,
they are the party of divisiveness, hatred, lies, deceit, they are the prototype BAD politician, they never mean what they say when they make promises, and they will tell u what u want to hear, have their back room meeting and do what they want to do anyway and dam all others
HARKENS BACK TO jIM cROW, AND BLACK FACE ACTORS....
I AM SO TIRED OF BEING MARGINALIZED LIKE MY OPINION DOES NOT MATTER

You need to recheck your history...the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act of the 60's passed because of Republicans carrying the necessary votes to overcome the Democrats who opposed the acts.
