After what may have been his sixth trip to the gym since arriving in Hawaii one week earlier, the president-elect shook things up on Saturday by wearing his beloved White Sox cap backwards. See the photo and vote in our poll below.

The worn White Sox hat has a storied past. After Obama was photographed wearing it to the gym almost every day after the election, the team's chairman Jerry Reinsdorf asked his people send Obama's people some new caps. They were declined.

I could care less.
For the record, I recently retired after spending a life-teaching in a inner city schools. Baseball caps worn backwards was standard apparrel. When I morphed into my alter-ego, Dr. Whacko-D, a frustrated English teacher trying to be a rap star, my "disguise" consisted of a football jersey - and a baseball cap worn backwards. (I did have to choose my costume carefully since some foottball and baseball caps are gang symbols.)
I find nothing wrong with Obama's baseballcap - worn forwards or backwards. For all the critics, I'll offer some wisdom from the 'hood.

It appears that he was baby sitting everyone babies in Hawaii, so he probably turned the cap backwards to prevent the babies from messing with it. So what's next? My husband (who is making a surprising move from an Obama bah-humbugger to an Obama fan) responded to the vacation pictures with a smile. He says that Obama will thumb his nose at the Presidential cage right up to the moment the door closes on him when he speaks the words on January 20th.

I say enjoy him like he is, he's beautiful. Pictures like these make me glad we have him. Something tells me he doesn't waste 20 minutes each morning holding up ties in front of the mirror. Good on him! And furthermore, I hope he shows up in the Oval Office in polos and slacks unless there is some overriding reason not to... or at least on Fridays.

Teadye, I so agree with you. I see many people across the country over the next year or so going through a process like your husband, from negative to positive, about our upcoming President. We are not used to seeing our leaders with a self assurance that comes from within, with an intelligence he is not ashamed of, and with a family that is so obviously in-tuned with one another. As President-elect Obama makes those hard decisions he is going to be faced with, and as our country changes from "materialism at its core" to true family values, to truly putting country first, to thinking about other people more than self, respect for him will grow. And we might even get a sense of humor back. We are actually debating which way a hat is worn on a head? :)

Actually, the feeling I am getting is that the euphoria is wearing off now that he is tied to the Obama-Blagojevich scandal in IL. And his key demographic aren't fawning all over him now that he wants to block the only AA Senator from being seated (something, btw he or Harry Reed have no right to do, according to a couple Supreme Court rulings, but we'll see...)
