Whitney Port

"The City," the spinoff of "The Hills" featuring Whitney Port's move to New York to work for Diane von Furstenberg, may be as fake as the reality show from which it comes and it's a headache for those just trying to do their jobs.

According to the NY Post:

One source tells us, "She doesn't really work. She is hardly ever in the office." Those who do work for von Furstenberg, however, are in the office daily and "can't get their work done because MTV tells them they can't move any thing at their work stations. They do so many reshoots that everything has to look exactly the same every day."

The show premieres at 10 pm EST.

i was just wondering, diane von furstenburg doesn't seem the type of woman to deal with crap that MTV makes them do. She seems like a very responsible and devoted woman to her work and not only her life. I think if Whitney were to be causing a lot of issues then she would have been fired by now because DVF could easily just find another girl who doesn't cause that much trouble. I mean no doubt MTV is probably fake but i wouldn't go as far as saying that some of the emotions on the show are not real. i don't know. maybe it is fake, i still like the show because of the fashion.

I'm angered that people think that "REALITY SHOWS" are real

Ive never seen a full episode of any of the shows mentioned, however I work ed in the fashion industry....seeing clips of the over scripted schlock-drama, makes me vomit in my mouth a little knowing these people are being 'hired' under some façade. I had some pretty good fashion internships during school, but I actually had to work and prove myself, what a joke...I'm sure the 'real' employees love changing their clothes to make it look like another day. LOL. this is just a big commercial for 'fashion' and ' lifestyle marketing'. BOR-RING , get some REAL style, girls.

Nice to know that the dumbing down of America will still continue even after Bush is gone, thanks MTV, now cancel all these crap shows you call "entertainment" and show some damn music videos like you used to, than maybe you'll get better ratings!

The writers of these shows should be unionized! I am so looking forward to what happens after the new administration signs the card check process into law.

There are so many better shows to watch than that crap. I prefer fiction over fake reality. Although Top Chef is pretty awesome

This show is meant to be a teenage girls fantasy....are you people too stupid to figure that out?
Do the math; Whitney starts off as a intern for teen vogue... during the middle of a fashion shoot, a prominent fashion disigner stops the show and say's "you should be a model" as he points at whitney....She meets all kinds of male models who swoon all over her...then she is offered a fashion job in new york, where she has more male models swooning over her. the most recent episode has a hansome musician, and a male model almost getting into a fist fight because they love her so much!!!!
This is a scripted version of every teenage girls fantasy! that being said, I do watch the show...I like to think it keeps me in touch with fashion, and with what women want and fantisize about.

"... it keep me in touch... and with what women want and fantisize about."

Sorry to disillusion you, Dave. The fantasy you describe sounds more like a very young woman's possible fantasy.

For you to extrapolate that to apply to grown women would be a big mistake.

Okay, so I've never seen the "The Hills" nor watched "The City" until last night. That is to say, until last night I knew nothing of Whitney. I caught "The City" between 10 and 11pm NY time. For all intents and purposes, it's the same old same old right down to Diane Von Furstenberg marketing herself and her wares in any way humanly possible. It's so gross. Whitney was engaging for the most part to watch though you do want to strangle her for the company she keeps. (Dump the Australian guy sweetheart, or, at the very least, the show's writers should have her dump him.) Olivia was annoying beyond all get out, (spoiled little rich girl with no talents...her "acting" is appalling,) and her cousin...spare us please. Make that PLEASE. Having spent a lifetime working in documentary television, it was painfully obvious how this show was scripted. There was one "actress" though that truly stood out. The dark haired friend of Whitney's is a damn fine actress. No question she should be out auditioning full time. She's got naturally appealing acting chops. C'est tout.

I am watching it now. Who wants to watch these girls yelling over these crowds of people at clubs and parties? It's awful! And I like some awful stuff, at least my husband thinks so.

I'm always amused by those "special" ones who don't watch or don't own a TV.

Remembering Theodore Sturgeon's statement that "90% of everything is crap" implies there's 10% for people who have judgment rather than kneejerk reactions.

Agreed...but 99% of the programming on MTV falls into the 90% of everything that is crap. Doesn't take a "special" person or a TV fan (like me) to realize that.

From a post I made before, in case you didn't see it:

There is nothing "reality" about this show. I've seen "the hillls" filmed firsthand and intimately and I can assure you a director gives the players all their cues. There is a script and a set storyline. MTV makes people on the set sign waivers and confidentiality forms to cover their big sham. It's one of the most fake things I've ever witnesses in my life to see these people show up and pretend like they are involved in something they are not is nauseating for those of us that are working hard to get somewhere. The Hills girls are not involved in fashion, or music, or film; they are a bunch of no-talent rich kids from Laguna, and elsewhere, riding the wave of entitled celebrity. At least just realize you are watching a low-budget soap opera.
