An Iraqi-born Canadian citizen who was detained on Christmas Eve as he tried to enter the United States has been charged with conspiring to spy for Saddam Hussein's Iraqi Intelligence Service.

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a criminal complaint alleging that Mouyad Mahmoud Darwish, 47, informed the IIS of Iraqi volunteers being trained by the U.S. military in Virginia and made efforts to conceal the activities of Baath party members in the United States and Iraq.

Hey , deluded lib/prograssives who ask why after Hussein (Sadam not Barack) has been dead 5 years... Would you say the same and defend the Nazis who still are hunted after 60 years?

Ok, how can you spy, for someone we executed a long time ago? Is he a psychic channel or something?

LOL! I wondered the same thing until I read the whole story. Here's a piece of it:

>A supporting affidavit submitted with the complaint alleges that Mr. Darwish's recognizance for the IIS came to light through an informant and through confidential IIS documents.
They were obtained by the U.S. military after the invasion of Iraq.<

The crimes with which Mr. Darwish is being charged were allegedly committed before the death of Hussein.

Uh - isn't Saddam dead? If they knew this then, why not prosecute while he was in Maryland? This smells of being another 'proof' the Shrub has 'kept us safe from terrorists' only this time from a dead dictator we once paid and supported before he became a handy focus of our imperialism. Whole thing stinks. Also - I think the name Darwish is Kurd, not Iraqi, and doesn't THAT make it interesting...

January 20 cannot come soon enough.

I guess our intelligence services are sharper than we give them credit for.... imagine, finding a spy for a dead person, whose party has been out of power for 5 years. Or else, someone desperately needs some arrest numbers to justify their budget increases.

Makes me ashamed of my former NSA bosses.
