I Like ItI Don’t Like It

More than 500 youths were caught up in a mass brawl as they tried to gatecrash a girl's 18th birthday party advertised on Facebook.

Up to 50 police officers were scrambled to disperse the bottle-throwing louts after the group was refused entry to the bash at Club 791 in Thornton Heath, South London.

Jeez, by the headline, I thought it was "The Mob" who crashed the party. What a disappointment!!

It wasn't the Facebook ad that did it. It was the text message to Rod Blagojevich.

Reason 128 to revive the lost art of the written invitation.

What troubles me most about this story is this: What happened was dreadful enough, but by making her home address public, this girl has opened herself and her family to any lunatic with a computer who happens to become focused on her.... I consider most of these social networking sites to be a very efficient means of trawling for stalkers.

Stu.pid posters blaming the girl for listing her birthday party plans on Facebook for friends and family. Just because someone not associated with the girl reads it, this is not an invitation for them to crash the event. People blog about their upcoming nuptials, doesn't mean they want a group of strangers creashing the wedding. J e r k s !

Ah, to be young again. It was so much harder arranging a birthday riot in the old days.

"Bottle throwing louts", weren't they a punk band back in the '70's?

This is crazy, why publicize a birthday party on facebook?

It's a common feature and function of facebook that many people utilize.

Facebook makes it very easy to invite your friends to events. You create an event page and send invites to your friends, and they accept or decline or ask questions, etc. It's not really crazy, it's quite common. What's crazy is that people would crash a party they were never invited to.

Publicizing an "invitation only" event is itself an invitation. Why would someone need Facebook to invite people to a party?

They have no respect for their elders; they wear outlandish clothes; and their music -- it's just noise!!

I predict that by tomorrow this will become an internet macros and a papermodel vibrator with a shoop da woop faux trademark.

Why would you advertise a B-day party for invited guests only? THe social networks seem to invite trouble; it's not as if people can't be crazy and/or malevolent.

I agree WHY would they "advertise" a party on Facebook?

And LOL Georgina Hobday and Jemma Johnson sound like they do porn!

At first glance yes it does sound like the mob = mafia but a group of 500 qualifies as a mob. especially in London. Brits tend to be a little crazy... I know.
