Prince On Prop 8 Stance: I Didn't Vote At All

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Prince has spoken out about his position on Prop 8, a month and a half after the New Yorker quoted him as against it. He dodged the subject by saying his religion prevents him from voting at all.

From an interview with the LA Times:

He didn't vote at all. "I didn't vote for Obama either," he explained. "Jehovah's Witnesses haven't voted for their whole inception." The controversy over a recent New Yorker "Talk of the Town" item, which Prince feels implied he supported the gay-marriage ban, has upset him. It's the first thing he wanted to discuss when the Web geeks had gone and we were alone. "I have friends that are gay and we study the Bible together," he said. He added that two sides fighting "only benefit the third person" who instigated the fight.

Despite initially saying he was misquoted, the New Yorker stood by their Prince story.

Prince is a great musician. Let's just leave it at that.

That's probably the best approach.

Remember back in the day when Prince first started putting out records? They were actually vinyl records and they were fantastic. I remember reading the liner notes only to find that he'd played almost every instrument on every song. Amazing.

Prince is a musician.

There, fixed it for you.

JW have policies with regards to education; well, formal education, like in universities. Apparently they are against it! This kind of distain for secular knowledge may make understanding of a lot of things harder.

My religion prevents me from voting also. My religion states there are NO qualified persons to handle the duties of public office, therefore prohibiting me and others to with-hold voting. Even if I was allowed to vote ACORN would "fix" it so my vote did not matter anyway.

I'm sure there are qualified people who hold religious offices in your sect, like the ones who told you that no one is qualified to hold public offices. Fascinating, to have complete monopoly on power like that. Perhaps that is a good thing, that you don't vote.

Sometimes a Supreme Court ruling will come down that will prevent your vote from being counted, or even allowing you to vote in the first place. But then, how can you live anywhere and allow your religion to be the reason you don't vote? What the? And you're complaining about ACORN and not JWs.

"...therefore prohibiting me and others to with-hold voting."

Pardon? Do they prohibit you from attending school?

If Black Americans had followed the rules of their "owners" (makes me sick to my stomach) during the slave days, then they would still be catching up. Thank GOD for people who break the rules and find their own truth inside themselves. Those are the people who live free of chains and restraints created by the rest of us.

Actually, it's easier for those people in charge that tell you these "rules" to do so in order that they have very little competition when running for office themselves.

Seriously, can you imagine a woman dressed like Prince? I am in hysterics. Actually Roseanne Barr did dress as Prince for a Halloween episode of her show. It was funny as all get out. She still looked ridiculous in the clothes, though.

And everyone should know that people who love and wear purple most of the time are either senior citizens or gay, or both.

It seems like Midasgurl partner does or she does. But, as a straight girl I would not be caught dead or alive in any of Prince outfits.

I have heard and received some interesting verification of Prince's past "sexploits" with, shall we say, "alternative lifestyles" while in DC a few years back. Pix and all! I don't want to make this into something major but let's just say that me think he does protest too much!

Everyone knows about Prince, we've known for more than a few years. He's always protested too much and we don't really care. He's a musician not a world leader.

In my opinion, most religions distort judgement to some degree or another.

This was only one of the most important elections in our country....EVER. The candidates were polar opposites, with very different world views and positions on issues that will affect the entire globe

..........and he didn't vote.

Great judgement, Prince.

Jehovah Witnesses don't vote because they believe every government in the world is controlled by the devil. It sounds kind of true. They care more about the kingdom of God than they do this world, so they don't bother to get involved in politics.

They don't care who has what worldview unless that worldview coincides with their's. A friend of mine is a JW and she told me that McCain and Obama are doing the work of the devil. She did not elaborate on that comment, she seemed angry about them both. I changed the subject.

You see, that's the scary thing. They are waiting for the afterlife. Well, ignoring reality and waiting for a fantasy can be a dangerous thing in a world where action is needed to prevent disasters like environmental collapse, starvation and terrorism.

The 9/11 hijackers also believed that only the afterlife mattered. They drove the plane into the towers believing that any innocent muslims killed would go to heaven, and they would immediately be in paradise as well. If you think this way, why not kill everyone and square everything up??

Frightening and sad...to me.

Actually, Witnesses don't vote because they don't believe in countries or borders. They believe the entire earth is free land from God and made for all humans to enjoy. They also do not celebrate any holidays because they were all created by man.

Whatever, my laugh came when I read that Prince is a Jehovah Witness AND reads the bible with gay friends. That isn't possible since a true Jehovah's Witness is not allowed to be with a gay person whom they know is gay. They are very strict and another example of religions ability to inspire and, in fact, demand hatred from its followers. Sad.

No, they were all too same. Many views overlapped and in some cases there are only small adjustments.
