I Like ItI Don’t Like It

10 year-old student journalist Damon Weaver has already talked with "My Homeboy" Joe Biden, but with the gift of inaugural tickets from his congressman and $8,000 in donations sending him to DC, he hopes to interview Barack Obama and is continuing his media push to help his cause.

He's made a pitch video, included in the clip below, and went on MSNBC Friday with his teacher to talk about why he wants to talk to the President Elect.

Asked his feelings about Obama, Weaver said, "I'm very excited because he's the first black African-American president in the history for America."

He added that his fellow students in Florida want him to land the interview and are "very excited to see the first black president in the chair."

I saw this child interview Biden. He should be encouraged, and I hope he has a great future.

Am I the only one who believes this pint-sized webcaster will probably be granted the first interview with the 44th POTUS? More power to him. Hope it's not all downhill from here, but at least there's a great view from a plateau that high.

There are several comments on here from pathetic adults criticizing this kid. A young black can't catch a break, unless he speaks, walks and talks the way people want him too. You people sound like a bunch of raci st bigots. Black men have the hardest time making it in this country, because some of you people start picking them apart early, so by the time their adults, you're diging their graves. If this was a white kid, you'd be here dancing a jig. Insidious idots.

Leave this kid alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its very pathetic....most of them are "you know what" and hate the fact that this young man is doing something besides entertaining them!

No one is hating on the young man. Just constructive criticisms. If Obama's mother and grandparents had lowered the bar, rather than demanding his very best, he may not be the PE today. I remember in one of PE Obama's interviews, he talked about the high standards his mother set for him and how she would wake him up at 4 am in the morning for his lessons. When he complained, she responded with "this is no fun for me too, buster."
I bet you those who are demanding more from Damon are the African-American parents/mothers on this forum who view him in the same light as they would their own children. We are tired of people like you making excuses for our black men.

How great it is to watch such ambition in a 10yo! For the first time ever, the African American race has a President to identify with making it possible for this happy and talented child to interview his role model. President elect Obama appreciates ambition and will certainly grant him an interview. Can't wait to see this down to earth interview. You go Damon!!

All you sourpusses need to get a life! This is a great kid; why would you want to sour him on life like you yourselves have been soured? I believe that if Barack Obama actually saw this, he'd be the first one to grant Damon an interview! Come on; if Biden did it, Obama should too!! And I'll be the first one to tune in to see it! Good luck to Damon and his teacher! Great work, all of you.

Damon continue to be persistent. Do not pause when you hear the whispers to be perfect, to be gramatically correct, to speak perfectly, etc. No one is perfect at 10 nor 100 years old. And, those who complaining and nitpicking are just sitting on the sidelines of Life. Keep going. Speak up. Speak out. Get that interview. Be the Captain of your own Life. I am rooting for you. Be Blessed -Crystal

Amen to all of that! There sure are a LOT of miserable folks out there who don't remember the joy of being ten and the feeling of a world without boundaries. Let the boy have his chance. And stop sucking on those lemons.

He is a ten year old boy...........he may not use the same lingo as you. BUT he is not out there gang banging so we should support his positive pursuits.

I'm sure the POTUS has been called alot worse.

Exactly. If he wants to be taken seriously at 10, he needs to get rid of the "homeboy" talk.

thats right! he needs to be considered a proffessional journalist! just because he is in the 5th grade is no excuse for him to not behave like a respected journalist from columbia journalisim school! Thats right! He should be breaking hard stories, pressing obama on his ties to blago, what about his citizenship? what about his abortion votes in the illinois senate!

who cares if he's 10!? He should be breaking hard news!

Whatever happened to your mind?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:39 PM on 01/03/2009

Dear Young Fellow: Your interest in journalism is most admirable. And I hope you will apply yourself accordingly. But please learn the proper way of addressing government officials as all other reputable journalists do. This is the right time for you to learn to proper format of communication. You should refer to Mr. Biden as Mr. Vice President or Vice President Biden, and Mr. Obama as Mr. President or President Obama (effective January 20th). Until that time you must refer to them as Vice President-elect and President-elect, respectively. Please do learn the proper etiquette early on in life. Thank you.

BACKOFF. he'll learn that along the way. Too much criticism can kill enthusiasm.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:24 PM on 01/03/2009

You back off. He should learn it now, not later. Please stop making excuses for our black men. If he cannot address his teacher as his homeboy, he has no business addressing the PE or his VP as homeboy. He is setting a bad example for other kids to emulate. Even my 2 year old who is in preschool, does not call her teacher by name without adding Ms. to the teacher's first name. A 10 year old who is holding himself out as a student journalist needs to start with learning how to be respectful to the office of the President of the United States.
